Peter wanted to understand news broadcasts in English, which he accessed online.


He was a highly motivated high-level student, but the broadcast was just too difficult.
He found that the newsreaders spoke very fast, and he could not keep up. Besides, the changes in
the topic as the newsreader went from one news story to the next were difficult because
suddenly, you needed to activate a whole new vocabulary. He asked what he could do to improve
his listening skills. Advise him on what he can do.

paced English news broadcasts:
Start with Slower News Sources:
Peter can begin with news programs tailored for English learners, like BBC Learning English or
VOA Learning English. These offer slower speech and simpler vocabulary, making it easier to
