Q1. a) Define the following concepts:

b) Differentiate the following terms and give relevant examples to support
your answers:
i) Reliability and validity (4 Marks)
ii) Descrete variables and Continuous variables (4 marks)
iii) Cross-sectional research and Longitudinal research (4 marks)
c) A candidate in your class obtains the following scores in an end of term
test. Mathematics 60; Physics 65; English 80. The class means for these
subjects are as follows: Mathematics 55; Physics 62; English 88 and the
standard deviation for the subjects is Mathematics 6; Physics 4; English 1
i) Find the z score for each of the subjects (6 Mark)
ii) Which of the subjects has the student performed best (1 Mark)
d) Identify THREE qualities of a good research problem (3 Marks)
Q2. The table below presents marks obtained by 10 form one students in a History

Development (KICD) to conduct a study on the effects of a new educational
programme on ability to read and write among lower primary school children.
Describe in detail how you would use the experimental design. (15 Marks)
Q5. State an educational research title and construct a questionnaire comprising
a) FOUR (4) items regarding demographic characteristics of the participants,
b) FIVE (5) items on the dimension of any educational issue you want to
study and
c) FIVE (5) items of a 5-point scaling pattern on the perceptions of the
participants towards the chosen educational issue that you plan to study.
