SESSION 1
How to Discover the Real Meaning and
Purpose of Life

Objectives: Upon completion of this session you will be


able to...

1. Know what life is all about,


2. List the four facts of life,
3. Understand the root cause of all of life’s problems,
4. Know the only answer to man’s greatest problem, and
5. Experience the real meaning and purpose of life.

Note: Please find and read every Bible verse in this session
and in all other subsequent sessions. You need your own
Bible for this.

INTRODUCTION
1. Let’s begin with the obvious – you are ALIVE!
2. Anybody here DEAD?
3. Your body is FUNCTIONING -- breathing, eating,
sleeping, working, etc.
4. There are 7 billion other people who can say the
SAME thing. They are alive!
5. But, millions of people in this world, in this country,
even some of us, may be asking: WHY do I exist, what
is LIFE all about? What is the real MEANING and
PURPOSE of my life?
6. To discover the real meaning and purpose of life, let’s
consider four simple facts of life.

FACT 1 – GOD CREATED YOU IN
HIS IMAGE TO LIVE IN
FULFILLMENT AND LOVE
A. We can see God’s loving PLAN for us in Jeremiah
29:11 (please open your Bible to this text).
B. We can see God’s loving plan for our
FULFILLMENT in John 10:10.
C. But the problem is, not everyone is experiencing God’s
love and direction in their lives. Why not?
Because of...

FACT 2 – MANKIND IS
SEPARATED FROM GOD BY SIN

The Bible says sin is...


A. Failure to BE what God WANTS us to be (Romans
3:23). God wants us to be HOLY and WE ARE NOT.
B. Failure to DO what God WANTS us to do (John
14:15). God wants us to SERVE Him and WE DO
NOT.
C. God has allowed each person the RIGHT and
FREEDOM to CHOOSE. Right choices bring good
results. Wrong decisions bring BAD consequences.
D. Sin has its consequences: VIOLENCE, SUFFERING,
PAIN, INJUSTICE, EMPTINESS and
LONELINESS.

E. These things are bad enough but sin also
SEPARATES us from GOD.

And Mankind has TRIED to bridge this gap of separation....


but always without SUCCESS.

FACT 3 – JESUS CHRIST IS


GOD’S ONLY ANSWER FOR
MAN’S SIN AND SEPARATION

A. According to Romans 6:23, our sin has a PENALTY–


but Jesus paid OUR eternal death penalty. Why?
B. Because He loves YOU and ME. He bridged the gap
that separated mankind from God. He made possible
a NEW LIFE for you!!!

STAGE 1 NEW BEGINNING
C. Read: 1 Peter 3:18.
D. Jesus conquered DEATH -- 1 Corinthians 15:3-6
E. Jesus LED us the way to God – John 14:6
F. Now – knowing these three facts of life is NOT
enough. God has provided the only way. WE have
ONE responsibility!

FACT 4 – EACH PERSON MUST


INDIVIDUALLY RECEIVE JESUS
CHRIST AS HIS SAVIOR AND
LORD
A. We are ALL responsible INDIVIDUALS to God –
John 1:12; Romans 10:9
B. Jesus promised us something – John 5:24
C. This is God’s desire for you. When you RECEIVE
Jesus as your Savior and Lord, you are no longer
under the condemnation of SIN. PLUS you receive
ETERNAL LIFE.
