3rd Quarter Project: Create a Volcano!
1st and 2nd Performance Task
Project objective:
Students will use of their textbook, as well as other materials as needed, to create a self-made volcano that proves
knowledge of one of the main types of volcanoes that exist on Earth: Students, will research and will make a presentation
with a visual aid (PPT or other visual aids) on the explosive volcano on Earth that correlates with the type of volcano
designed and created.
Volcano Model: 50/50
Presentation: 50/50 Due Date Wednesday January 15, 2025
Directions on creating a self-made volcano model:
1. Make a volcano that represents one of the types from the book.
2. Use any materials you want to create the volcano except perishable foods. Food items will rot quickly and attract bugs
and student fingers. The options are endless!!!!!!!!
3. The volcano you create should look like the actual type you are trying to represent.
4. The base of your volcano should be ¼ illustration board and the height of your volcano is the same height of
your science book
5. Your volcano should be designed creatively, colorfully, and neatly.
6. Place appropriate labeling on your model volcano with the real volcano name, type of volcano, and your first and
last name of your groupmates. Labeling needs to be visible…not underneath the model
Directions on making a presentation of a real-life volcano:
1. Choose a real volcano that represents one of the types discussed and described in the book. It will be explosive
You will use a volcano named in the book, one of the examples discussed in class, or another of your
choice. Enclose your final report presentation with your visual aids.
2. Make a title page with your name, period, name and type of volcano researched, and copied/pasted image of the
Volcano in your visual aid and extra designs are encouraged.
3. On your presentation put all the information about the volcano that was assigned to you. In your report, include
information that
Research questions:
a. Where is your volcano located? Is it part of a mountain range? Island?
b. How old is the volcano? How do scientists know this?
c. How was the volcano created? What type is the volcano? It should be the same type as the model you created.
d. Explain how often it erupts, past eruption history, and if extinct or dormant, explain how long.
e. Describe and explain any additional information that pertains to destruction and human casualty history
4. Your presentation should reflect your own wording. Don’t only read what is the written in your visual aids!
Included this in your presentation! Make your volcano explode! You’ll demonstrate your explosion for the class…Be
creative!
