Lab. 10

The document outlines a laboratory experiment focused on studying the behavior of current when inductance is introduced into a circuit. It aims to familiarize students with impedance concepts and its effect on current, utilizing coils of varying turns and an iron core. The lab consists of multiple parts, including measuring impedance without and with an iron core, and comparing the results through graphs and observations.

Lab No: 10 To study the behavior of current when inductance is

introduced in the circuit

10.1 Objectives:
 To become familiar with the concepts of changing impedance in the circuit

 To see the effect of impedance on current in the circuit.

10.2 Equipment Required:

Instruments
NV 6000 trainer

Components Coils with different no of turns

Iron bar. connecting wires

10.3 Resume of Theory

Impedance (Z).
Impedance (symbol Z) is a measure of the overall opposition of a circuit to current, in
other words: how much the circuit impedes the flow of current. It is like resistance, but
it also takes into account the effects of capacitance and inductance. Impedance is
measured in ohms, Symbol is Z.
Impedance is more complex than resistance because the effects of capacitance and
inductance vary with the frequency of the current passing through the circuit and this
means impedance varies with frequency! The effect of resistance is constant
regardless of frequency.

Mathematically

Z = V/I
And Z=√R2 + XL2
Where XL = 2лfL

Where Z = impedance
V = voltage
I = current
f= frequency
R = resistance
XL = inductive reactance
