The Healing Canal: A Restorative Space for Respite and Recreation
This project revitalizes an 800-meter stretch of the canal in Kurunegala(Boo Ela) into a peaceful,
accessible space for visitors, patients, and staff from Kurunegala Central Hospital. Designed for
relaxation and recreation, the Healing Canal will feature shaded seating, walking paths, and calming
water views to promote well-being and community connection.
Objectives
Provide a calm space for hospital visitors, patients, and staff to rest and unwind, away from
the busy hospital environment.
Promote mental and physical well-being by incorporating nature, greenery, and soothing
water features that help reduce stress.
Ensure the space is accessible to everyone, with paths, seating, and amenities that
accommodate people of all ages and abilities.
Encourage interaction and connection by creating areas for people to meet, socialize, and
enjoy the outdoors together.
Design a sustainable, eco-friendly space that uses natural materials and promotes
environmental responsibility while blending seamlessly with the surrounding urban area.
