• Subjects shown in CAPITAL LETTERS are compulsory at that year level (you have to take them). Other subjects can be
chosen. Please see below for more information about each year level.
• Entry to some subjects depends on availability and students starting in terms 2 or 3 may have limited subject choices if classes are full.
• Some subjects stop at Year 11, some at Year 12 and some lead into two or three other subjects.
• There may be conditions of entry to some subjects. Please consult the senior handbook for more information.
• When choosing subjects, consider subjects that will help you get into your chosen university course, subjects you enjoy and
subjects you are good at.
S tudents must study ENGLISH (or ESOL), SOCIAL STUDIES, Students must study one language and can choose from: French,
MATHEMATICS, SCIENCE, PHYSICAL EDUCATION, Japanese, Maori, Spanish or Mandarin.
MUSIC and HEALTH. Students must study one technology subject for one term:
Materials Technology (wood, metal and plastic), Graphics, Fashion &
Design, Food & Nutrition, Electronics
Students must choose two more subjects to study for one term:
Drama, Dance, Art & Design, Economics, or another technology
subject.
S tudents must study ENGLISH (or ESOL), SOCIAL STUDIES, Students can choose two more subjects from the Languages, Arts,
MATHEMATICS, SCIENCE, PHYSICAL EDUCATION and Technology or Commerce departments.
HEALTH.
S tudents must study ENGLISH (or ESOL), and Students can choose four more subjects and from the Social
MATHEMATICS. Science, Science, Languages, Arts, Technology, Commerce or
Health and Physical Education departments. We usually recommend
students choose Science because this is often needed for university.
Students must study ENGLISH (or ESOL) Students can choose five more subjects and from the Maths, Social
Science, Science, Languages, Arts, Technology, Commerce or Health
and Physical Education departments.
There are no compulsory subjects in Year 13 Students can choose five subjects and from the English, Maths,
Social Science, Science, Languages, Arts, Technology, Commerce or
Health and Physical Education departments.
