CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION
1.1 INTRODUCTION TO WATER POLLUTION

Water pollution cause maximum by plastic wastes in water bodies. Over 300 million
plastic products are produced in a year for use in a wide variety of applications. At least 14
million tons of plastic end up in the water bodies every year. This project is made for extract the
floating wastes in the water bodies, reduce the water pollution and to increase the life of aquatic
animals.

1.2 INTRODUCTION TO WATER CLEANING BOAT

The” Water Cleaning Boat” utilized in that spots where there is squander garbage in the
water body which are to be taken out. This machine is comprising of waterwheel driven transport
instrument which gather and eliminate the wastage, trash, and plastic wastages from water bodies.
This likewise diminish the hardships which we face when assortment of garbage happens. A
machine will lift the waste surface trash from the water bodies, this will eventually bring about
decrease of water contamination and in conclusion the oceanic creature's passing to these issues
will be diminished. It comprises of Belt drive system which lifts the trash from the water. The
utilization of this venture will be made in streams, lakes, and other water bodies for to clean the
surface water flotsam and jetsam from bodies.

Each Consolidated oil skimmer and waste gathering framework robot is included a head,
which is covered by a layer of photovoltaic cells, and a Nano wire covered transport line. The
photovoltaic cells create sufficient power to keep the armada moving for a very long time and
give the energy to push the vehicles forward. As the head travels through the water the transport
line continually pivots and sucks up contamination. The Nano wire-covered belt is then
compacted to eliminate the oil. As the perfect piece of the belt emerges from the head it quickly
starts engrossing oil, making the assortment interaction consistent and proficient.

This interaction is more smoothed out than flow sea skimming innovations on the grounds
that the robots can work independently and don't have to get back to the shore for steady upkeep.
As the vehicles work as one, they can cover huge regions and by speaking with one another and
specialists ashore, they can facilitate their assortment endeavors.
1
In this venture the primary point of this machine is to lift the waste garbage from the water
surface and arrange them in the plate. Here we are manufacturing the remote worked oil and
Waste Stream cleaning machine. The gathering plate and transport lines are turning consistently
by the engine.

Generally, conventional method based on manual basis and it's used for collection of
water debris, trash, plastic and all other sorts of impurities which is floating on water bodies or by
collecting this impurity by means of boat, thrash skimmer etc. And removed this impurity near the
river shore and disposed of it. But this conventional method requires more manpower, hence this
is often a risky, costly, and time-consuming method. By considering this all-water cleaning boat
are more efficient than conventional methods and this is effective and eco-friendly. This machine
is remote operated, so manpower isn’t required at all. So, this machine is really advantageous for
reducing the pollution on water bodies. As India is developing in terms of technology very
rapidly, it is quite important that the devices which are introduced need to be updated on a regular
basis. Nowadays, all the devices are more dependent on digital technology rather than analog
technology.

So, people in the government cleaning sector can start using this bot in their cleaning activities.

1.3 CONCLUDING REMARKS

Water cleaning boat is useful for extract a floating waste in water bodies. It is used in small
water bodies like rivers, ponds.

PROBLEM DEFINITION

3.1 INTRODUCTION

In the absence of waste disposal facilities, the practice of dumping waste into nearby
bodies of water has become widespread in recent years and has resulted in long-term negative
impacts on both the biodiversity of the area and the local environment. Less human intervention.

The very primary concept must be glad this is to keep away from the interference of the
operator. This will show up most effective via way of means of the adoption and sustained
utilization of era with inside the workspace. Collect greater quantity of waste: Very first it ought
to accumulate round 5kg of waste at a time while its miles being left to the water.

3.2 PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED

Easy disposal of waste: Another critical component is simple elimination of wastes which
can be gathered with inside the accumulating box. It should be strong. To make the product strong
it should get via with right layout calculations. It needs to face up to intense situations which
includes extra load exerted through the water waves and in addition to through the wastes which
canbe being gathered. Safety for the user. Most of this plastic contamination is credited to an
expansionin the travel industry, delivery, and fishing exercises. Be that as it may, as per a new
report, an impressive part of plastic trash above water in the untamed waters starts ashore and is
depleted intothe oceans by streams.

The product must be consumer friendly. Environmentally friendly: It need to know no

longer damage the aquatic animals. It must know no longer have any belongings that has
unfavorable impact at the water source.

Floating bottles, plastic baggage or even toys have come to be part of the marine
surroundings in latest times. Pitiful snap shots of such plastic particles washed ashore on far off
shores have often made headlines. Most of this plastic pollutant is attributed to a growth in
tourism, transport, and fishing activities. But consistent with a current study, a significant part
of plastic

5
Rubbish afloat with inside the open waters originates on land and is tired into the seas with the
aid of using rivers.
But this isn't pretty much the surroundings and the natural world that stay underwater
aquatic pollutants influences the whole thing from species, ecosystems, human health, coastal
tourism, and contributes to weather change.

7.1 INTRODUCTION

The components used for making water cleaning boat are going to collect at right
specifications as per required. The components used to make boat are discussed are detailed in while
designing the water cleaning boat.

7.2 RAW MATERIAL FOR MAKING BASE AND FRAME

The long “L shaped” angle steels are purchased for making base and frame. The angle steel
material is mild steel. The specifications of “L shaped” angle steel is 25X3 mm thickness. The
reason for choosing mild steel is water resistant and mainly corrosion resistant. Mild steel is a typeof
carbon steel. It has a low level of carbon. It can withstand a great amount of wear and tear
withoutbreaking or corroding over long time. It has a good weldability property. It has a high tensile
strength. It contains large amount iron and ferrite. It is ideally suited to certain types of projects
which require steel fabrication.

7.3 PVC PIPE

The float it means PVC pipe (5-inch diameter and 4 feet length) 2 pipes are purchased with
4 caps to cover both end of the hollow pipes. Pipe’s material is rigid plastic. It is a hollow pipe. PVC
pipe caps are needed for cover both ends of the pipe. It has high impact strength but, lower ultimate
tensile strength. Pipes are used for floating purpose in this project. Polyvinyl chloride or PVC is a
thermoplastic material derived from common salt and fossil fuels.

7.4 CONVEYOR BELT AND ROLLER

The conveyor belt is made up of nylon. The length of the belt is 1000 mm. The thickness
ofthe belt is 5-10 mm. Conveyor belt is placed over the two rollers. The jaws are fixed in the
conveyorbelt. The combination of nylon in the warp and weft is known as nylon belt, and it is used
in multi-ply conveyor belts for the transportation of bulky items. In this project also it is using for
transporting the bulky items. Rollers are used for rotary motion. Two rollers are need for boat. In
these rollers 12 mm hole is provided for insert the shaft. Rollers most important for belt
conveyormechanism.

12
Fig 7.4 Conveyor belt over roller

7.5 SHAFT

Shaft is a round component. Its material is mild steel. Its diameter is 12 mm. Shaft is
connected to the gear. Two shafts are used for making the boat. Rollers are placed over each
shaft. It is fitted into the bearing. The surface of the shaft must be finished smoothly for achieving
smooth rotations of shaft. One shaft is directly connected to the gear and another shaft is directly
connected to bearings.

7.6 BEARING

The bearing 6202 is purchased. 4 bearings with bearing caps are required. Bearing is used
to reduce friction and to enable high rotational speeds. Bearing caps are used to prevent unwanted
particles entering the place where the bearings are contained. Bearings are parts “parts that assist
object’s rotation”. They support the shaft that rotates inside the machinery.

7.7 SHEET METAL

Sheet metal is required for make jaws. By using bending operation, the sheet metal is
going to make as a jaw. Its material is galvanized iron. The thickness of the sheet metal is 0.5
mm. It is more flexible.

13
7.8 PLASTIC TRAY

Plastic tray is used to carry the wastes which delivers by the jaws. It is placed backside of
the boat. It carries 2 to 3 kg of weight. It is strong and ductile. It is cheap and durable. Plastics are
non-corrosive.

7.9 PMDC MOTOR

12V, 90W, 60RPM PMDC Motor is used for belt conveyor mechanism. It has an inbuilt
gear setup. PMDC motor is used because it is more efficient than regular DC motor. Spur gear is
used to reduce speed and increase torque. Its material is cast iron. The gears are always in meshed
condition. These gears are cost-effective, strong, and reliable. Its efficiency varies from 94% to
98% with lower gear ratios.

Fig 7.9 12V, 90W, 60RPM PMDC Motor with spur gears

7.10 FOUR-WAY CONTROLLER

The four-way controller is used for controlling the motion the boat. It is controlled by
remote. It gets supply from 12V Battery. The circuit board is placed on the top of the boat.
Voltage reducer and four relays are there in the circuit board. Voltage reducer is used to convert
12V to 5V. Four relays are there for to work four motions of the boat. Circuit is directly
connected to the propeller. Boat’s motions are obtained as per direction of rotations of the
propellers.

14
Fig 7.10 Circuit board

7.11 LEAD ACID BATTERY

Lead acid batteries are the most basic 12V battery type. They are made up off lead plates
suspended in a sulfuric acid solution. This creates a chemical reaction that allows for energy to be
stored. Flooded batteries are the most common variety of lead acid batteries. It supplies the powers
to motors and circuit board. It is rechargeable battery. It can run for maximum 30 minutes. Inside a
lead acid battery, the positive and negative electrodes consist of a group of plates welded to a
connecting strap. The plates are immersed in the electrolyte, consisting of 8 parts of water to 3
parts of concentrated sulfuric acid. Each plate is a grid of framework, made of a lead-antimony
alloy. This construction enables the active material, which is lead oxide, to be pasted into the grid.
In manufacture of the cell, a forming charge produces the positive and negative electrodes. In the
forming process, the active material in the positive plate is changed to lead peroxide. The negative
electrode is spongy lead. Automobile batteries are usually shipped dry from the manufacturer. The
electrolyte is put in at the time of installation, and then battery is charged. This battery is
maintenance-free battery.

FABRICATION OF THE RIVER CLEANING BOAT

8.1 INTRODUCTION

The materials required for built a boat are collected and by using mechanical works and
operations, the collected raw materials are going to assemble as per design.

8.2 METAL CUTTING AND WELDING PROCESSES

Metal cutting processes includes a variety of methods for removing material from a work
piece, including turning, milling, drilling, grinding. The choice of process depends on the job’s
specific requirements, such as material size, shape. Here, the metal cutting is done as per the
required length by using metal cutting machine. By using the tape, the required length is kept on
the raw material, and it is marked. After this, the metal cutting will do in the marked point.
welding is a fabrication process whereby two or more parts are fused together by means of heat,
pressure or both forming a join as the parts. Here the arc welding is used to join the metals. Arc
welding is a process that is used to create enough heat to melt metal, and the melted metals, when
cool, results in a binding of the metals. The cutting materials are joined by the welding process as
per design. Base and frame are made by welding process. The PVC pipes are placed on the two
sides of the boat with the help of bolt and nut. Painting is done for the frames.

Fig 8.2 Base and frame

17
8.3 FABRICATION OF CONVEYOR MECHANISM

Bearing caps are welded to the “L Shaped” angle steels. The bearings ate fitted into the
bearing cap by pressing using hand manually. If we use hammer to fit, it inside, it may break.
Shafts with rollers are placed into the bearing’s inner ring. From the front view, In the top left
spur gear is fitted in the shaft. The nylon conveyor is placed over the two rollers. In the conveyor,
the jaws are fixed. The jaws are made up of sheet metal by using bending operation. The gear
which is at the top left of the shaft is mesh with the spur which is in the PMDC motor. If the
motor is activated means the gears will rotate along with rollers with jaws.

Fig 8.3 Belt conveyor mechanism

8.4 FABRICATION OF FOUR-WAY CONTROLLER

Two motors with impeller are placed back side of the boat. There is a hole is provided in
the “L Shaped” angle steels and in cap of the motor also. The motor is kept in angle steels and
then cap is placed over the motor. It will lock bybolt and nut. The hole is produced bydrilling
operation. These two motors are connected to the four-way motion controller circuit board which
is placed inthe top of the boat. The circuit board get current supply from battery which is placed
near the circuitboard. There is a space provided for put the battery on the top of the boat. There is
a voltage reducer

18
Provided in circuit board to reduce the voltage because battery is12V supply, but the circuit need
5Vsupply. Four relays are there in circuit board, it gives four types of motion. The required
motion is given by the remote, based on this the given motion boat will move.

Fig 8.4.1 Circuit board

Fig 8.4.2 Propeller

19
8.5 PAINTING PROCESS

Painting both interior and exterior of the frame will help to cover marks or strains on
frame. It will keep the painted surfaces from dust and dirt. Berger butterfly enamel paint is good
for mild steel. It is a solvent based paint which provides maximum level of gloss.
