Problems - Agricultural Buildings and Infrastructure

The document outlines calculations for materials needed for concrete projects, including a sundrying pavement, a machine foundation, and a concrete hollow block wall. It provides specific dimensions and mixing proportions to determine the number of bags of cement, volumes of sand and gravel, and the number of hollow blocks required. The calculations yield precise quantities for each construction element based on the given dimensions and material ratios.

Determine the number of bags of cement (94 lbs), sand, and gravel of a

proposed concrete sundrying pavement whose width and length are 100
meters x 200 meters. The thickness is 4 in.
Given: Width - 100 meters
Length - 200 meters
Thickness - 4 in.
Required: No. of bags of cement, sand, and gravel
Solution:
Volume of concrete = 100 m x 200 m x 0.1 m
= 2000 m3
Cement = 2000 m3 x 7.84 = 15680 bags
Sand = 2000 m3 x 0.44 = 880 m3
Gravel = 2000 m3 x 0.88 = 1760 m3

A concrete foundation for rice mill engine drive was determined to have a
dimension of 2 meters wide by 4 meters long. The computed depth was 1.5
meters. Determine the number of bags of cement and the volume of sand
and gravels needed for the foundation. Use 1:3:6 mixing proportion.
Given: Structure - machine foundation for rice mill engine
Width - 2 meters
Length - 4 meters
Depth - 1.5 meters
Mixing proportion - 1:3:6
Required: number of bags of cement, volume of sand and gravel
Solution:
Volume of concrete = 2 m x 4 x 1.5 m
= 12 cubic meters
Bags of Cement = 12 m3 x 5.48 = 65.76 bags of cement
3
Sand = 12 m x 0.44 = 5.28 m3
Gravel = 12 m3 x 0.88 = 10.56 m3
A farmstead will be enclosed with concrete hallow block wall with a height
of 2 meters. The total length of fence will be 1000 meters. Using class B
mixture, what is the total number of 6 x 8 x 16 hollow blocks needed for the
wall? What is the volume of mortar and plaster needed for the hollow
blocks as well for the wall surface on both sides of the wall. Also compute
the number of bags of cement, lime and sand needed for the construction.
Given: Structure - concrete hallow block wall
Height of wall - 2 meters
Total length of wall - 1000 meters
Mixture - class B
Hollow block size - 6 x 8 x 16
Required: Number of hollow blocks
Volume of plaster and mortar
Number of bags of cement
Volume of lime and sand
Solution:
Total surface Area = 2 m x 1000 m
= 2000 square meters
No. of hollow blocks = 2000 sq m x 12.5 CHB/sq m
= 25000 pieces of CHB
Volume of mortar = 25000 pieces x 0.0008 m3/block
= 20 m3
Vol. of mortar per 4 cell = 25000 x 0.004
= 100 m3
Total volume = 120 m3
Mortar cement = 120 m3 x 12.04 bags/m3
= 1444.8 bags of cement
Volume of sand = 120 m3 x 0.97
= 116.4 m3
Volume of plaster = 25000 x 0.002
= 50 m3
Bags of cement = 50 m3 x 5.5
= 275 bags of cement
Bags of Lime = 50 m3 x 5.5
= 275 bags of lime
Volume of sand = 50 m3 x 0.90
= 45 m3
