Load Calculation

The document outlines the load calculation for a structural analysis, focusing on dead loads from slabs, beams, and walls, as well as live loads from occupancy. It provides specific examples of calculating the weight of slabs and converting trapezoidal loads to rectangular loads for beams. Additionally, it mentions live load considerations based on pressure and area for residential occupancy.

LOAD CALCULATION:

A. DEAD LOAD:
a. WEIGHT OF THE FOLLOWING:
i. SLAB: WEIGHT = UNIT WT. OF CONCRETE x THICKNESS OF SLAB
1. FOR EXAMPLE:
a. ASSUMING FOR A SLAB THKNESS OF 100mm
b. USING THE UNIT WT OF CONCRETE = 23.544 Kn/m3
c. Wt of slab = 23.544 x 0.10 = 2.3544 kN/m2

AT BEAM 1 : THE SLAB LOAD (BLUE):

BLUE AREA = ½*(4+1)*1.5 = 3.75 M2

ACTUALLY, THE SLAB LOAD TO THE LONGER BEAM IS A TRAPEZOIDAL LOAD. HOWEVER, TO
SIMPLIFY THE LOAD CALCULATION, WE WILL CONVERT IT TO RECTANGULAR LOAD ONLY.

***TO CONVERT THE TRAPEZOIDAL LOAD TO RECTANGULAR IS TO GET THE TOTAL CONCENTRATED LOAD
AND DIVIDE IT BY THE LENGTH OF THE BEAM.

RECTANGULAR LOAD = TOTAL CONCENTRATED LOAD / LENGTH OF BEAM

= [WT OF SLAB*AREA] / LENGTH OF BEAM

= [2.3544 Kn/M2 * 3.75M2] / 4

= 2.21 kN/m
AT BEAM 2: THE SLAB LOAD (ORANGE):

ORANGE AREA = ½*(3)*1.5 = 2.25 M2

RECTANGULAR LOAD = TOTAL CONCENTRATED LOAD / LENGTH OF BEAM

= [WT OF SLAB*AREA] / LENGTH OF BEAM

= [2.3544 Kn/M2 * 2.25M2] / 3

= 1.7658 kN/m

THEREFORE: FOR GRID – 1, THE LOAD DIAGRAM WILL BECOME LIKE THIS BELOW:
ii. WEIGHT OF BEAMS = UNIT WEIGHT OF CONCRETE X SECTION OF BEAM (Kn/m)
wb = 23.544 x bD

iii. WEIGHT OF WALLS SUPPORTED ON BEAMS = UNIT WEIGHT OF WALL x

THICKNESS x HEIGHT OF WALL
UNIT WEIGHT OF WALL (MASONRY) = 21.2 kN/m3
WEIGHT OF WALLS ON BEAMS = 21.2 x t x H

SOLID WALL WALL WITH OPENING

FOR WALLS WITH OPENING: (APPROXIMATE RECTANGULAR LOAD)
WEIGHT OF WALL (W/OPENING) = 21.2 x NET AREA x THICKNESS/ LEN. OF WALL

iv. WEIGHT OF WALLS NOT ON BEAMS BUT ON SLABS:

ASSUMING WE ARE TRYING TO GET THE WALL LOAD TO BE LOADED TO THE

HIGHLIGHTED BEAM AT GRID A.
B. LIVE LOAD:
i. LIVE LOAD = PRESSURE (kPa) x AREA CONSIDERED
1. FOR EXAMPLE:
a. ASSUMING FOR A RES’L OCCUPANCY OF = 1.92 kPa (kN/m2)

@ BEAM 1 : THE LIVE LOAD (BLUE):

BLUE AREA = ½*(4+1)*1.5 = 3.75 M2

***TO CONVERT THE TRAPEZOIDAL LOAD TO RECTANGULAR IS TO GET THE TOTAL CONCENTRATED LOAD
AND DIVIDE IT BY THE LENGTH OF THE BEAM.

RECT. LIVE LOAD = FLOOR LIVE LOAD x AREA / BEAM LENGTH

= 1.92 kPa x 3.75 m2 / 4m

= 1.80 kN/m

NOTE: LIVE LOADS CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING BELOW:

1. FLOOR LOAD (OCCUPANCY LOAD)

2. CEILING LIVE LOADS (0.50 kPa)
