day power and industrial systems. Transformers and induction motors are inseparable
EEE 2201/ EEE 203 Course Syllabus Summer 2024

Rationale parts of today’s modern power system and industrial loads. Even in futuristic
cars and vehicles mechanical engines are likely to be replaced by electric machines.
Hence, this course aims at introducing students to these machines.
22 Course Energy Conversion I is designed to develop fundamental knowledge and insight
regarding the basics of transformer and induction motor as well as to design and
Description implement systems containing these two machines. This course begins with reviewing
the foundation concepts of electromagnetic theories, magnetic circuits and basic
machinery concepts previously introduced in physics and circuit courses. This course
then introduces transformers to develop a detailed insight about its practical aspects,
modeling and analysis. Lastly, induction motors are introduced with a view of
enabling the students with its working, equivalent circuit, characteristics and
performance, circuit analysis having induction motors.
23 Course The course is designed to provide the background of the following topics
Objectives 1. To develop clear idea on fundamental laws on machine operations and
understand clearly the role of different magnetic parameter towards
functioning of electric machineries.
2. To develop fundamental idea on the operation of transformers (both three
phase & single phase) and induction motors.
3. To attain sufficient knowledge on transformers and induction motors so that
students can independently determine the performance of these machines
under various loading conditions.
