Evaluate: Was the One Child Policy a
success or failure?
Write your evaluation report, outlining the key points of the
One Child Policy that you have learnt about.
Key points to remember and use:
• The one-child policy slowed the rise in population in China, but it also brought big problems
too.
• Millions of baby girls have been abandoned, or aborted, so that people could try for boys. In
2007, 120 boys were born for every girl. In 2020 there are 30 million more men than women.
• Millions of men will not be able to find wives as there is not enough women which has led to
human trafficking of brides from abroad.
• The policy was ended in 2015 and replaced with the two-child policy.
• China has too many men, too many old people, and too few young people.
• if people don’t start having more children, they’re not going to have enough people to
work to support a huge aging population
• The policy was replaced with the three child policy in 2021
