• This tutorial is a guide to help you get set up with the major tools
used in the field
• Linux is a major Operating System used in the field it comes in
different distributions like Ubuntu, Kali, Fedora, CentOS, Debian,
Arch Linux
• We are going to install one of the distro which is the Kali Linux
Installing Kali Linux
• First you want to have a medium for which the virtual machine is hosted
on which brings us to installing virtual box
• Go to this link https://www.virtualbox.org then click on download and
download the virtual box file into your machine
• When the download finishes then you install the software you
downloaded above.
• Now navigate to https://www.kali.org and then you’ll see different
options
• First hit the download button you’ll be presented a new window showing
different types of Kali downloadables
• Select for “virtual machines”
RUNNING KALI LINUX
• After downloading the Kali for virtual machines which would be in a zip
format then you need to extract with either winrar or any archive
software
• You’ll extract 2 files with extension .vdi you’ll want to select the blue
thumbnail and right click on that file
• Then select open with and choose virtual box
• The Kali machine will be set up on the virtual box for you now you just
need to go to settings of that machine
• And allocate memory and storage usage for it
• You can find this in the settings tab and under system
• You can increase the memory given to the Kali machine for high
performance
