AATCC

AATCC, or the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists, develops standards for textile testing, focusing on performance and durability. The document outlines various test methods for assessing water repellency in fabrics, including Spray Test, Rain Test, Impact Penetration Test, and Hydrostatic Pressure Test. Each method evaluates different aspects of fabric resistance to water penetration under various conditions.

AATCC TO TEST METHODS OF WATER REPELLENCY

What is mean by AATCC?

1. AATCC stands for the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists.

2. It is a professional organization that develops and publishes internationally recognized standards

for textile testing.

3.These standards focus on areas like fabric performance, colorfastness, durability, and various other
textile properties

4. AATCC methods are widely used in the textile and fashion industry to ensure product quality and
consistency.

TEST METHODS OF WATER REPPELENCY

1.SPRAY TEST METHODS

2.RAIN TEST
3.IMPACT PENETRATION
4.HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE TEST

1.SPRAY TEST

Purpose: Assesses a fabric's resistance to surface wetting by water, making it particularly suitable for
evaluating the effectiveness of water-repellent finishes.

Procedure: Water is sprayed onto a taut fabric specimen, and the resulting wetted pattern is
compared against a standard chart to determine the fabric's water repellency rating.

2.RAIN TEST

Purpose: Evaluates a fabric's resistance to water penetration under simulated rain conditions,
predicting its performance in actual wet environments.

Procedure: A fabric specimen, backed by a weighed blotter, is exposed to water spray for a specified
duration. The blotter's weight gain indicates the amount of water penetration, reflecting the fabric's
resistance to rain.

3.IMPACT PENETRATION TEST

Purpose: Measures a fabric's resistance to water penetration by impact, simulating conditions like
rain penetration

Procedure: Water is sprayed against a taut fabric specimen backed by a weighed blotter. The increase
in blotter weight indicates the amount of water that has penetrated the fabric.

4.HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE TEST

Purpose: Determines a fabric's resistance to water penetration under hydrostatic pressure, applicable
to all fabric types, including those with water-resistant or water-repellent finishes.

Procedure: Water pressure is applied to one side of the fabric specimen, and the pressure at which
water penetrates the fabric is recorded.
