23. A circus artist is climbing a 20 m long rope, which is tightly stretched


and tied from the top of a vertical pole to the ground. Find the height of
the pole, if the angle made by the rope with the ground level is 30°.

24. Check whether (5, – 2), (6, 4) and (7, – 2) are the vertices of an isosceles
triangle.

25. Which term of the A.P. 3, 8, 13, 18, … is 78?

SECTION C
Section C consists of 6 questions of 3 marks each

26. Prove that 3 + 2√5 + is irrational.

27. On dividing x3-3x2+x+2 by a polynomial g(x), the quotient and remainder


were x–2 and –2x+4, respectively. Find g(x).

28. Find the roots of the following equations:

(i) x-1/x = 3, x ≠ 0
(ii) 1/x+4 – 1/x-7 = 11/30, x = -4, 7

29. The diagonals of a quadrilateral ABCD intersect each other at the point
O such that AO/BO = CO/DO. Show that ABCD is a trapezium.
30. The angle of elevation of the top of a building from the foot of the tower
is 30° and the angle of elevation of the top of the tower from the foot of
the building is 60°. If the tower is 50 m high, find the height of the
building.
31. One card is drawn from a well-shuffled deck of 52 cards. Find the
probability of getting

(i) a king of red colour

(ii) a face card

(iii) a red face card

(iv) the jack of hearts

(v) a spade

(vi) the queen of diamonds

SECTION D

Section D consists of 4 questions of 5 marks each

32. As observed from the top of a 75 m high lighthouse from the sea-level,
the angles of depression of two ships are 30° and 45°. If one ship is
exactly behind the other on the same side of the lighthouse, find the
distance between the two ships.
33. Two APs have the same common difference. The difference between
their 100th term is 100, what is the difference between their 1000th
terms?
34. Find the values of k for each of the following quadratic equations so
that they have two equal roots.

(i) 2x2 + kx + 3 = 0

(ii) kx (x – 2) + 6 = 0

(OR)

The two opposite vertices of a square are (-1, 2) and (3, 2). Find the
coordinates of the other two vertices.

35. The following frequency distribution gives the monthly consumption of


an electricity of 68 consumers in a locality. Find the median, mean and
mode of the data and compare them.

SECTION E
36. A 1.5 m tall boy is standing at some distance from a 30 m tall building.
The angle of elevation from his eyes to the top of the building increases
from 30° to 60° as he walks towards the building. Find the distance he
walked towards the building.

37. Is the following situation possible? If so, determine their present ages.
The sum of the ages of two friends is 20 years. Four years ago, the
product of their age in years was 48.

38. Find the area of the triangle formed by joining the mid-points of the
sides of the triangle whose vertices are (0, -1), (2, 1) and (0, 3). Find the
ratio of this area to the area of the given triangle.
