Introduction
In the Bachelor of Elementary Education programs (BEED) given by
the Teacher Education Institutions, Practice Internship is one of six
consecutive studies (TEIs). One of the practice internship is related to a
subject of professional education. Practice Teaching is focused on
engaging their-selves to the students, the educational environment, and
the school structure. Since this is the pre-service teachers’ first exposure
to a classroom setting after pandemic, it is expected that they will take
note of the classroom and school amenities as well as the organizational
structure of the institution. The Pre-service Teacher are responsible for
assessing how students behave in the actual classroom. Based on my
experience of students, pre-service teacher must enhance their
knowledge of practical methods for facilitating learning while taking into
account the various stages of growth and development. This is the first
experiential course that will immerse a future teacher in a real classroom
setting and learning environment where they will be able to directly
engaging teaching and learning episodes that are focused on applying the
educational theories they have learned in content and pedagogy courses.
Emphasis should be placed on student behaviour, motivation, teaching
tactics, classroom management, and assessment of learning, among other
things.
The relevance of the teaching-learning process, in which both the
teacher and the students play important roles, is demonstrated in Practice
Teaching. It is school-based and enables a pre-service teacher to take part
and offer limited practical teaching-learning assistance in activities related
to learning evaluation, creating instructional materials, setting up the
whiteboards, and other classroom routines. It will be necessary to provide
a portfolio that includes sample lesson plans, learning objectives, and
demonstration teaching for at least one subject area. It is advised that
students begin an action research project in this course and complete it
during their Practice internship. Teachers use many methods and
approaches to teach their students and transfer knowledge to them.
Narrative
The focus of Practice Teaching is on the environment and
development of the learner. We, as Pre-service teacher, have been given
the opportunity to engage in an immersive process of teaching and
observing the traits and behaviours of learners in a real-world learning
setting. As a result, we are able to recognize the needs and characteristics
of varied learners. I discovered that a student’s life must include a school
setting. They frequently stay here because it is their second home.
Schools have a duty to give kids a secure atmosphere that will support
their academic, emotional, and behavioural growth while also fostering
harmonious relationships with her classmates and teachers. It should have
a sense of community and belonging, including liking the school, believing
that teachers care about students, and having excellent friends there. We
learned a lot there during our time spent at Turac Elementary School,
my cooperating school where I am being assigned. Students’ learning is
greatly influenced by their environment at school. It should promote
safety and enhance learning. Through practice internship, I discovered
that every student diverse in their needs and that maintaining the
facilities at that school will give them an environment that is helpful to
them and will encourage them to attend class every day.
Through practice internship, I discovered that every student has
unique needs and features. In order to implement learning activities that
are appropriate for each kid, it is crucial for teachers to understand the
requirements and characteristics of their students. The learner has their
own degree of learning depending on their age and intellectual capacity,
and they should never forget that. As a Pre-service Teacher, students
discovered how classroom management affects students’ learning. A
successful teacher should know how to handle the pupils, the classroom,
the resources, and the time. Teachers should not be allowed to penalize
their students and should not enforce class rules and regulations. This
study also taught us that a variety of kids will always be in the classroom,
therefore as teachers, we need know how to cope with them. We must
also accept whatever background they may have, both good and bad.
Additionally, she saw how the way kids connect with one another varies
based on their group of friends, despite the fact that they all exhibit
harmony and unity. And finally, this practice internship taught me how to
see how work and play are interconnected. The home is where students
initially develop. They are attending this particular school as a result of
certain home-related considerations. The student’s whole demeanor has
been greatly influenced by it. For a better outcome, teachers should work
with the child’s family, as was also learned. For the child’s growth, home
and school should always work together.
Reflection
I learned a lot throughout my time spent Practice Internship and
being with Cooperating Teacher - Mrs. April F. Fajardo not only about
how to become the kind of teacher I want to be but also about how to
improve my own learning. I came across several excellent learning
resources, which I have now integrated into my own education to advance
my own learning. How I manage my learning is one way that the time I
spent on my practice teaching impacted my own learning. Throughout my
practice teaching, I saw the teacher modify her courses in a variety of
ways to better suit the various learning preferences of her students. This
got me to thinking about my own cognitive learning process and the way I
acquire and process knowledge. For instance, I’ve discovered that merely
commenting on what I observe in the classroom is insufficient; I need to
understand and learn about the classroom in a more fundamental and
meaningful way, such as through connecting observations to theories and
psychological research. Additionally, I’ve developed the ability to think
more deeply about what is happening in my environment rather than
merely scanning the surface. As a practice teacher,I made an effort to
communicate whatever ideas or emotions the children, teacher, or I might
have had in addition to simply describing what was happening. The first
thing I understood was the weight and responsibility that teacher’s carry.
They must strike a balance between the lesson plans, the common
core, the curriculum, the parents, the students, and higher management
while still acting professionally. Second, there must be a strict code of
ethics followed by educators. They must always act in a professional
manner with both students and fellow faculty members, preserve
discretion, refrain from prejudice and bigotry, uphold a climate of safety
and positivism in the classroom, assist struggling students in finding
solutions, and administer appropriate sanctions. The last thing I
discovered is that education never stops for teachers. For the sake of both
their pupils and themselves, teachers are constantly working to advance
their own education and professional development. During my Practice
Internship, I have come to appreciate how much instructors contribute to
the children’ upbringing and the preservation of a secure and supportive
learning environment. This course has shown me that learning never
ends. This training will direct us toward being excellent teachers in the
proper way. It will be our stepping stone to a prosperous dream profession
as teachers in the future. Additionally, this course is jam-packed with
information that can help us discover how to become the kind of teachers
we want to be, as well as how to be a better version of ourselves and
advance our abilities in both learning and teaching.
