DEVELOPMENTAL CHECKLIST??
A developmental checklist is a tool used to track a child's
growth and progress.
These checklists are often used by parents, educators, and
healthcare professionals to assess whether a child is reaching
age-appropriate milestones and to identify potential
developmental delay.
Checklists have generally been designed by clinicians, who
target very specific areas like motor or mental
capabilities, or speech and language skills.
A checklist is ideal when assessing young children who are
‘difficult to test’.
COM-DEVELOPMENTAL ECLECTIC
APPROACH TO LANGUAGE
LEARNING(DEALL)
The Communication DEALL programme is an early
intervention programme.
It provides intensive multidisciplinary intervention to
small groups of 12 children,
in the age range of 0-6 years, diagnosed with
developmental disabilities.
The goal of the programme is to integrate these
children into regular schools by school
entry age, i.e., 6 years.
CDDC
The Communication DEALL Developmental
Checklist (CDDC) was developed by
Karanth, to assess developmental skills of
children up to the age of 6 years, along
eight developmental domains, with criteria’s
based on an Indian population.
For the ‘difficult to test’ population, which
includes children with developmental
disabilities, assessment is generally carried
out through checklists that measure
a range of skills, based on reports given by
caregivers.
DOMAINS
Gross Motor Fine Motor
Activities of Daily Living Receptive Language
Expressive Language Cognitive Skills
Social Skills Emotional Skills
The CDDC is a criterion referenced
checklist, to assess developmental skills in 8 domains at
6 month intervals,
from 0 – 6 years of age.
The questions in each of the 8 domains have been divided into 12 subgroups,
i.e., 0-6 months, 6-12 months, etc.
For each subgroup, three questions have been delineated to assess skills within
that age range.
The total number of questions per domain is 36, and the total number of questions
within the checklist,
across all 8 domains, is 288.
The norms
for the CDDC were based on field testing of 360 Indian children.
Inter-rater reliability was observed to be high, suggesting that the CDDC provides a
reliable baseline for the developmental skills of children up to 6 years.
OVERVIEW OF THE
CHECKLIST
RESPONSE SHEET
AND SCORING
RESPONSE SHEET
SCORING THE SKILLS
Assessment - for each domain to be done
separately.
For children with typical skills- from chronological
age downwards.
For children with suspected overall developmental
issues- from bottom to top/lower level to higher
level.
Scoring for each skill is done on the 5 point rating
scale.
RATING SCALE
0- Not acquired
1- Acquired but lost
2- Acquired but inconsistently present / emerging
3- Acquired but consistently present, but only in specific
situations.
4- Acquired and consistently present across all situations
NR- No response from parent/Not known
CALCULATION OF TOTAL AND
PERCENTAGE
For clear-cut understanding of chid’s skills in
each domain.
For an objective understanding of the child’s
overall skills.
1. Sub-Domain total&percentage: Sum and
percentage of scores is done for skills in a
specific domain, eg. gross motor skills.
2. Domain total&percentage: Done for all
subdomains of a specific domain, i.e., motor
domain = sum/percentage of scores of the GM,
FM and ADL, communication domain =
sum/percentage of RL, EL skills and higher
mental functions = sum/percentage of scores of
the CS, SC, ES.
3. Overall total&percentage: sum/percentage of
scores of all three domains

Age-Range = 0-6 years of age
Criterion-referenced checklist
Assesses across 8 developmental domains at 6 month age interval
Each domain has 12 subgroups and 3 questions in each subgroup, total
36 q’s in domain and overall 288 q’s.
5 point rating scale + NR
Objective calculation is for Sub-Domain, Domain and overall
total&percentage
