BATOCERA MYZAR V.

38 GUIDE
IMAGE RECORDING:
Hello everybody, today is a total overhaul of the system. We are going to test batocera v.38 with auto-download.
System download:
Batocera myzar v.38:

Añade encabezados (Formato > Estilos de párrafo) y aparecerán en el índice.

Software to flash the image, do not unzip the file:
Balena Etcher:
https://etcher.balena.io/

The disk either mechanical or ssd, we put it in a SATA-USB enclosure and connect it to a pc, to flash the image
with balena-etcher. The recommended size is the disk you already have available, at the time of writing this
guide, 1.3 tb is the space occupied by the games. The server has a size of 4 tb's. Gradually the space
requirement will increase.

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS:
Intel or amd processing, better intel for the higher performance per core. With 4 cores it is fine, no complicated
systems are emulated, which require a lot of power.
A fourth generation i5 or higher is recommended.
Graphics card recommendations:
AMD: hd7850, R9 270x, r9 380x, a graphics card with vulkan support, you can check on the following page:
https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/?mfgr=AMD&mobile=No&workstation=No&architecture=GCN%201.0&i
nterface=PCIe%203.0%20x16&sort=name

NVIDIA: The maxwell series are the supported graphics cards, 900 series, GTX 750Ti, gtx 950, gtx 960,gtx 970,gtx
980,gtx 980 ti, titan.
INTEL: Intel graphics cards have dotclock problems, so low resolution modes don't work, all they can do is run at
super resolutions. This is not the recommended option. There are some chip models that do support vulkan.
On more current cpu models. There are emulators, and games that won't work. It does not allow the correct
calibration of the guncon2, so gun games will not work properly. If you have no other option, you can test how
far and how well it works.
8 gbs of ram. With 4 gbs it also works fine.
A crt tv, a keyboard and a xbox 360 controller, is what we are going to use to test and set up the system.

CONTROLS FOR BATOCERA:

For a controller the hot key is used for different actions, batocera myzar uses the select button as hot
key. We can change it by mapping our controller:

CONNECTING PC VIDEO TO TV:

A vga-scart cable is required:

GEOMETRY ADJUSTMENT:

First step recommended for those who use tv, those who use arcade monitors, there are monitor presets adjusted
to the make and model of each monitor. Best to use those presets.
On this page you can find information about the supported monitor presets:
https://gitlab.com/groovyarcade/support/-/wikis/3-Post-Installation-and-Maintenance/3.5-Monitor-Definitions
By default the system is configured with the preset arcade_15, if you want to change it you have to edit the
switchres.ini file, in the following path: /etc/switchres.ini
Press F1 to exit to the file manager:

On the left side in the drop-down tab we can choose between places and directory tree. Switch to directory tree,
and then press Control+2 to see the files in list mode, look for the switchres.ini file:
Double click on switchres.ini and access the contents of the file:

In default monitor we have set arcade_15, let's suppose our monitor is a hantarex polo, we would change it like
this:

Save the changes, and the games will be adjusted according to this monitor preset. These changes are useful
right now, but if we restart the pc they are lost and we go back to the previous preset. To save the changes we
must open a terminal window:

In the tools tab click on open current folder in terminal: batocera-save-overlay

We write batocera-save-overlay to make the changes permanent. We leave the file explorer by pressing the
combination: ALT+F4
Well after configuring an arcade monitor, we are going to try the case of using a domestic tv, we are going to
create our custom monitor preset, for this we go back to Emulation Station and look for CRT:

Search for setup geometry and launch it, a grid will appear on the screen:

We need a keyboard to adjust the grid on the screen as best as possible, we have on-screen help to move the
image, the cursors are used, with Page up we increase the size and with Page down we decrease it, this refers
to the screen horizontally, the adjustment of Vertical size cannot be done by software, we have to do it through
the TV service menu.
Yes it is possible to move the image vertically up and down, but not too much, about 8 pixels.
In the horizontal adjustment there is also a maximum limit of 30 pixels, if we exceed this limit an invalid crt range
is created. If that happens, no game starts, to solve it would be to launch this script again and not exceed the
limit of 30 pixels.
Once the grid is adjusted, press enter and it asks for confirmation to save the changes. The PC restarts
afterwards.
Let's see how auto-downloads works. To do this, from Emulation-Station we go to Ports:

The following screen appears, which is the auto-download script:

We launch it and the main menu appears, the script uses:

up and down (on the keyboard w, s)
select or accept (on the keyboard enter)
cancel (on the escape keyboard)
You can also use the joystick, up and down, button 1 accept, button 2 cancel.
CHANGING THE THEME IN ES
Now we are going to change the default theme, this is optional and depends on your taste:

We enter the others submenu and select the theme ES Arcade-Planet-mod

Access the main menu by pressing start:

Access user interface settings:

In theme set we change to arcade-planet-mod

Once the theme has been changed, several adjustments must be made. Show clock and on-screen help must be
deactivated:

In the network settings we deactivate the network indicator:

The sound options are as follows:

From the main menu go to system settins and then kodi settings, deactivate kodi:

These options are customisations, they are optional.

TESTING AUTO-DOWNLOAD
Go back to ports to auto downloads, enter the arcade submenu and download the first pack which is FBneo
1.0.0.3:
It tells us that the pack has 6613 files, that it occupies a space of 11.71 Gbs and that our available disk space is
736 gb’s.This value depends on the available capacity on your disk:

It waits for confirmation from our side that we want to download this pack, we press the button 1 or the enter key
on the keyboard.
Now to wait for it to come down:

When it finishes, exit auto-download, press start to enter the main menu and the first option is game settings:

We select the update gamelist option:

He is going to ask us for confirmation, we say yes:

And we update the emulation station listings:

Gamelist view:
By default, the schemes have a cover image, a logo, a video and a description in English.
The description of the games can be downloaded and changed to the following languages:
English, Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese.
We start auto-downloadas and from the main menu, the option to download translations appears:

And you can choose a language for the descriptions:

MAME OPTIONS
We download the 0.260 romset from auto-download. We enter the game lists:
We are in the view options menu, go to the last option, which is advanced options:

We enter the Emulator options, in the emulator we choose mame (groovymame):

We start a game:
Once the game has started, press the hotkey+button combination, or press the tab key on the keyboard:

This menu appears, click on about mame:

By default batocera v.38 has version 0.258 of groovymame installed.

We are going to update to version 0.260

We return to auto-download, to the fixes & updates submenu and from here we download the update to
groovymame 0.260. The installation is automatic:
If we go back to mame we launch a game and from the menu we look for the information of the version
we now have:

Entering the plugin options we can see that the higscore is activated, which is a plugin that saves the
scores of the games.
And the plugin for the guns, about the guns, we will see later.

By entering the cheat option, we can see the cheats available for this game:
By entering the slider controls options, we can change the volume of the game, the brightness, the
contrast, and one important thing is the frame delay. By default it is disabled, at 0, the higher this
number is the less lag we have. 9 is the maximum value, but it requires more processor. Remember
that mame works with a maximum of 3 cores. It is more single core work, it is important to have a
processor that performs a lot per core (high ICP value).

Also from slider controls, we can adjust the geometry of the game, we can increase or decrease the
width of the screen, we can move the image horizontally.
And we can also move the image vertically.
All of these settings depend a lot on each game.

When we launch a mame game, a configuration file is created with the name of the game and the
extension.cfg.
This example creates the 88games.cfg file. This file saves all the settings that we change, geometry
adjustment, frame delay adjustment, brightness adjustment, contrast, etc.
And to finish with mame, entering system information, in video we can see the resolution and frequency
of the game on its original board, and below the resolution and frequency that groovymame has
calculated:

We return to auto-download. to the arcade submenu. And let's go for the option to download everything:

It tells us that we have to download 21,515 files that occupy a space of 156 GB. Do you mean that we
are going to go down again, mame and fbneo? (editado) No, what is already downloaded is not
downloaded again, only what we need to complete the arcade systems:
The arcade systems are as follows:
FBNEO
MAME
NAOMI
NAOMI 2
MODEL 1
MODEL 2
MODEL 3
NEO GEO CD
DAPHNE
ZINC
And where is cps 1, 2, 3?
And where is neogeo?
We created these systems and others from Batocera itself, as we will see below:

After installing the remaining arcade systems, (there is a restart, after installing zinc) we enter the main
menu and click on the game collection settings option:
We activate CPS 1, 2 and 3:

We activate neo geo games::

We activate vertical and lightgun games:

The game collections we have activated now appear in the Emulation Station:
Neo geo system:

If we go to the neo geo list, we can see that the games appear duplicated, because we have two
different emulators, and two different romsets.
On the one hand mame and on the other retroarch with fbneo.

To make this menu appear, we place ourselves in the list above the name of the game and we press the
A button (or the enter key), and there we have it:
In this menu (edit this game’s metadata) we select the option hide, and then save to save the changes.
The hidden game will no longer appear in the list.

LIGHTGUNS:
There are games that have a gun icon.
These games are marked in the listings as suitable for playing with lightgun. All of these games filter
into the lightguns list, there are games from various platforms gathered together, in that list:
Connecting the guncon 2 pistol to a TV with scart:

link aliexpress
For an arcade monitor you have to solder the female rca connector to the pins of the jamma connector:
link aliexpress
Soldering on video ground and video sync:

Let's calibrate the gun.

From emulation station we access to CRT and then to guncon2 calibration:

We continue with the calibration.

It is compulsory and necessary to always have a remote control connected to use the lightguns.
We start the calibration script, it tells us to press the trigger to start:

A target appears in each corner, we must aim at each of these targets to complete the calibration:

After shooting the four corners you have to press any of the side buttons of the gun:
EXAMPLES:
Settings for alien 3 fbneo:

Settings for alien 3 grovvymame:

ZINC SYSTEM:
We now continue to configure the zinc system, we access the list of games:

In advanced system options, the first option, in emulators we enter to choose the default emulator:

These are the options.

Only one LIBRETRO works mame0.139
It is the one we must select.

DOWNLOAD BIOS
If we try to run a Naomi game, it shows us a warning about the bios:
From auto-download, submenu others, we download the bios for batocera v.38:

Actually downloading the bios is one of the first things to do. If we leave it for later, this happens, that batocera
tells us that the bios is missing. From auto-download, download them all, and install them where they belong,
each thing in its own folder.
Recommendation: also download the music pack.

SUBMENU FIXES:
Let's review the options available in this menu:

Install wine Ge: This option adds a wine (wine is an add-on for Linux that offers compatibility with Windows
games and programs). This fix adds greater compatibility in Windows games.

Install Switch: An online script is executed that installs yuzu and Ryujinx in their latest versions. In addition, the
necessary bios and firmware are added for the system to work.
Fix Daphe v.38: If you have downloaded batocera myzar v.38 in version 1.3, this fix is not necessary. In previous
versions if necessary and corrects game startup errors.

Update Groovy Mame 0.260: By default the version of groovymame in batocera v.38 is 0.258. With this update
we update it to version 0.260, which are the romsets uploaded to the auto-download server.
Fix Intel hd: This fix changes the 99-intel25dot.conf file, in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/conf folder, what it does is
ignore all the HDMI and DISPLAY PORT ports, it will only detect the VGA AND DVI ports. Additionally it will
change the min dotclock from 0 to 17. This should improve the creation of resolution modes.

NINTENDO SWITCH
On consoles there is nothing important to explain, you download the packs and they work.
We only explain nintendo switch, which is an unofficial batocera system.
We start auto-download and in the main menu there is the option fixes & updates:
Install Switch: An online script is executed that installs yuzu and Ryujinx in their latest versions. In addition, the
necessary bios and firmware are added for the system to work.

The computer restarts after installation.

We download the switch package logically, here is the list of games:

By default the emulator is yuzu ea, the games in the pack have been tested with this emulator, and it is
recommended to leave it like this. In the following screenshot you can see all the available options:

The games already start, but the controls don't work, because we haven't configured the emulator.
To configure the controls, exit the game, exit the game list, return to the Emulation Station, connect a
keyboard and press the F1 key to exit to the batocera browser.
On the left side with the mouse go to Applications, look for the yuzuEA-config icon and launch the
emulator:

In the Yuzu tabs click on Emulation and then on Configure:

I
n the tabs on the left-hand side, click on Controls. The image as you can see in the screenshot has a lot
of overlay, it is overflowing, and we can't see all the options:

How are we going to do it?

Hold down the Alt key on the keyboard, at the same time hold down the left mouse button, and we can
then move around the screen and see all the available options:

In input device, we can select our device, there appears the xbox 360 controller, we select it:
In the bottom right corner, there is the ok button, to confirm the changes:

If we launch a game now, we will see that the controls work.

COMPUTERS WINDOWS
Let's see how these downloads are distributed:
Download All:
If we choose to download everything, it will download the openbor packages, sharp x6800, windows games,
except for the racing games, which is a separate download.
Install Heroic Games Launcher:
Heroic is a wine manager for linux, it allows you to run windows games on batocera, which are complicated, for
library reasons.
The installation is done automatically, both of the program itself and of the games, each game can be
downloaded independently.
In ports we now have the possibility to launch heroic, and from here you can add more games, using more
options than from batocera itself:

INSTALL VERTICAL SYSTEM

From the main menu we access the vertical sub-menu:
And these are the options for installing the vertical system:

Use 90 degrees monitor:

The system rotates the image to the right, which means that our monitor or TV must rotate to that side:

Use 270 degrees monitor:

The system rotates the image to the left, which means that our monitor or TV must rotate to that side:
Configuration 0 degrees , no rotation:
Undo all changes, and we return to the initial position with the horizontal system.
It is possible to change the orientation at any time, we can choose 90 degrees, and then change to 270 or vice
versa.
Below you can translate the descriptions of the games in 5 languages: English, Spanish, Italian, French and
Portuguese. This downloads the gamelist.xml to the corresponding directory and replaces it.

i fix mame tv's game.Apply if necessary:

On some domestic TVs, there are certain frequency ranges that are not supported. In one particular case it
happens with a panasonic tv, which does not support the 56 hz frequency. This patch creates ini files that
modify the models to correct this problem. If in your case you don't have problems with the frequencies, you
shouldn't apply the patch.
In any case, you can apply the modified inis or delete them. Just launch this option from the menu. If they are
active, they will be deactivated. If they are deactivated, they will be activated.

GENERATION OF LISTS
Before downloading a package of roms that take up a lot of space, I want to know what games are in the
package.
Let's generate the lists in txt format to know which games are included.
We enter the submenu others and here appears the option to generate lists:

Once the script is launched, all updated listings will be generated. And they will be saved in .txt format. It takes a
few minutes to generate the lists.

The lists are stored in the path /userdata/roms/lists.

You can view them over the network, or from the system itself with F1 by going to the file manager, and
double-clicking on any list.
We now continue to configure the zinc system:Once the script is launched, all updated listings will be
generated. Once the script is launched, all updated listings will be generated. And they will be saved in
.txt format. It takes a few minutes to generate the lists. And they will be saved in .txt format. It takes a few
