I. READING COMPREHENSION
The text
From a very young age, I played and loved MMORPGS. For long, that stands for Massively
Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games. Such examples of this is Everquest or World of Warcraft.
I've played every one for at least a month of time a piece. I would spend 6-9 hours in the game
every day from a certain time to a certain time. After I got off school, it would be an hour of
homework and then the rest of the night going and doing my thing until I deprived myself of sleep
for school. This took tolls on my grades as one would normally expect, and impacted other daily
events such as being overly cranky towards everything, being unresponsive to most stimuli and
generally being a downer to the point of notability. Then even my friends eventually didn't want to
hang out with me. Gaming took over everything. It devoured what it meant to be me.
I've slowly weaned myself down to the point where I barely play anything. Instead I vary my
addictions, because I can't call them hobbies if they consume part of my life, it would be
sugarcoating it or telling lies to myself and I'm completely honest and blunt, in such ways as
Anime, Movies, Working Online. This of course all still revolves around being online so I'm never
far from my computer so I guess that is still an addiction as well. But this time, instead of the
addiction driving my needs, I can physically see it so I can avoid any pitfalls.
I hope this will help you come to terms with this type of addiction too, if you have it. Don't lie to
yourself. This experience should help you form a better opinion. Like I said, I know it's an
addiction. I know thousands if not millions suffer from this same addiction, but are afraid to admit
it, or they are like me and feel it wasn't an addiction but rather an alternate reality, a family, a place
they belonged to. I won't say either side is wrong, but when you spend as much time on as I did,
and neglect what really matters in life.. you are wrong.
