TOP DRIVE
RLA STEM

FUNCTIONS:

• The RLA stem is attached onto bottom of motor housing. The hydraulic fluid is fed from the
main manifold into the stem through radial passages at the upper end then out to all actuators
in the pipe handler by fluid grooves while rotating or in any stationary position. Due to high
frequent operations this stem needs R&I often.
• Top drive IDS-350P/IDS-4A/TDS-9S/10S/11S/TDS-8S/TDS-1000A are totally equipped with
this kind of stem.

RLA STEM

FUNCTIONS:

• The RLA stem is attached onto bottom of motor housing. The hydraulic fluid is fed from the

GOOSENECK ASSEMBLY

FUNCTIONS:

• The gooseneck is installed onto the bonnet which connects the S pipe and wash pipe
assembly. High pressure fluid pass through this gooseneck and enter into drilling string. Due
to high pressure & high flow this gooseneck is subject to washout. Frequent R&I is required.
• Top Drive TDS-8S/9S/10S/11S/1000A, IDS-350PE, IDS-4A, TDX-1000/1250 and Hydralift
HPS-650/750/1000 are all equipped with this gooseneck.

S PIPE ASSEMBLY

FUNCTIONS:

• The S pipe connects gooseneck and mud hose. High pressure fluid pass through this S pipe
and finally enter into drilling string. Due to high pressure & high flow the S pipe is subject to
washout. Frequent R&I is required.
• Top Drive TDS-8S/9S/10S/11S/1000A, IDS-350PE, IDS-4A, TDX-1000/1250 and Hydralift
HPS-650/750/1000 are totally equipped with this S pipe.

S PIPE ASSEMBLY

FUNCTIONS:

• The S pipe connects gooseneck and mud hose. High pressure fluid pass through this S pipe
and finally enter into drilling string. Due to high pressure & high flow the S pipe is subject to

• Top Drive DDM-650/1000 are totally equipped with this S pipe.

TORQUE ARRESTOR ASSEMBLY

FUNCTIONS:

• The torque arrestor assembly hangs from the RLA. It provides backup for making or breaking
connection with the top drive at any height in derrick. Due to high frequent operations this
main component clamp wrench requires often R&I.
• This kind of torque arrestor assembly are used on top drive TDS-8S/TDS-9S/TDS-11S/TDS-
1000A & Hydralift HPS-04-650/750-SG.

MTR ALIGNMENT CYLINDER ASSEMBLY

FUNCTIONS:

• The motor alignment cylinder attaches between lower gearcase bottom and motor frame. Top
drive maintains a vertical orientation whether the main shaft connects with drilling string or not.
Due to high variable load carries on it usually requires frequent R&I.
• Top Drive TDS -3S/TDS-4S/TDS-8S/TDS-1000A are equipped with this motor alignment
cylinder assembly.

SHOT PIN ASSEMBLY

FUNCTIONS:

• The shot pin assembly can drive the RLA in either direction 360 freely. During make or break
operations, the RLA can be locked into any of 24 index positions by a hydraulic shot pin. Due
to high frequent operations, the shot pin assembly requires often R&I.
• Top drive model TDS-8S/9S/10S/11S/1000A are equipped with this kind of shot pin assembly.

STABBING GUIDE ASSEMBLY

FUNCTIONS:

• The stabbing guide is attached onto the clamp wrench assembly. These stabbing guides are
interchangeable and used to guide several sizes of tubulars. Due to misalignment between
tool joint and saver sub the guiding operation usually leads to part damage.
• Top drive TDS-8S/9S/10S/11S/1000A are all equipped with this kind of stabbing guide.

PORTABLE GUIDE BEAM ASSEMBLY

FUNCTIONS:

• This is a portable guide beam which is usually used for land rig because it is convenient for
dismantling & installation. The top drive travels on this guide beam assembly which also
transmits drilling torque into the derrick. Because of torque transmitting the portable guide
beam requires an frequent R&I.
• Top drive TDS-8SGB/TDS-9S/11S/IDS-350PE/IDS-4A are equipped with this portable guide
beam assembly.

DOLLY ROLLER ASSEMBLY

FUNCTIONS:

• The dolly rollers are installed on the carriage or dolly frame which are attached onto motor
housing. Drilling torque is transmitted to guide beam by means of these rollers. Due to heavy
duty on these rollers R&I will be carried out periodically.
• Top drive TDS-8S/9S/11S/1000A ， IDS-350PE/IDS-4A, TDX-1000/1250, HPS-04-650/750,
HPS-03-750/1000 are all equipped with this kind of rollers.

LINK TILT CRANK ASSEMBLY

FUNCTIONS:

• This link tilt crank is attached onto RLA. Both link tilt cylinders retract/extend the links forward
to mouse hole position or backward to drilldown position. Due to limited land rig derrick space
this crank and cylinder are subject to be damaged easily.
• Top drive TDS-8S/9S/10S/11S/1000A，IDS-350PE, IDS-4A are all equipped with this kind of
crank and cylinders.
