Aftercooler - Remove and Install - Sea Air - Treated Water

Removal Procedure

Either Krytox product can be used.

Start By:

A. Remove the atmospheric pressure sensor.


B. Remove the inlet air temperature sensor.

1. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Coolant - Change" for the proper draining
and filling procedures.

2. Remove hoses (1) and (2) .

3. Disconnect hose assembly (3) and remove the adapter.

4. Disconnect hoses (5) and (6) .

5. Attach a suitable lifting device to aftercooler (4). The weight of aftercooler (4) is
approximately 50 kg (110 lb).

6. Remove bolts (7) and remove aftercooler (4) .

7. Remove O-ring seal (8) .

8. Remove O-ring seal (12) .

9. Remove bolts (9) and (10). Remove plate support (11) .

Note: Discard O-ring seals (15), (17), (20), and (22) .

10. Remove bolts (13), outlet bonnet (14), O-ring seal (15), spacer (16), and O-ring seal (17) .

11. Remove bolts (18), inlet bonnet (19), O-ring seal (20), spacer (21), and O-ring seal (22) .

Note: Discard O-ring seals (23) and (25) .

12. Remove bolts (27), bonnet (26), O-ring seals (25), aftercooler core assemblies (24), and O-
ring seals (23) .

Installation Procedure
1. Install aftercooler (4) in the reverse order of removal.

a. Install new O-ring seals (15), (17), (20), (22), (23), and (25) .
b. Secure O-ring seals (12) and (8) with Tooling (A) .

c. Lubricate bolts (7) with clean engine oil.

Air Cleaner - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

1. Remove air filter change indicator (1). Remove band clamps (3). Disconnect hose (2).

2. Disconnect hose (5).

3. Remove four bolts (6) and remove air cleaner (4).

Installation Procedure
1. Install air cleaner (4) in the reverse order of removal.

a. Tighten bolts (6) to a torque of 15 ± 3 N·m (133 ± 27 lb in).

b. Tighten air filter change indicator (1) to a torque of 2 ± 0.7 N·m (18 ± 6 lb in).

Air Starting Motor - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

Ensure that the engine cannot be started while service work is being
done. This is very important when the engine is equipped with an
Automatic Start/Stop System. On the engines that are equipped with an
air starting system, close the air supply valve to the air starting motor
before service work is begun.

Alternator - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the batteries.

2. Release tension on the belt tensioner and remove belt (1).

3. Disconnect harness assemblies from terminals (4).

4. Remove bolts (2) and (5), then remove alternator (3).

5. Remove bolt (8) then remove tensioner (9).

6. Remove four bolts (6) then remove alternator support (7).

Installation Procedure
1. Install alternator (3) in the reverse order of removal.

a. Tighten bolt (5) to a torque of 88 ± 7 N·m (65 ± 5 lb ft).

Removal Procedure

1. Disconnect harness assembly (1). Remove atmospheric pressure sensor (2).

Installation Procedure
1. Install atmospheric pressure sensor (2) in the reverse order of removal.

a. Tighten atmospheric pressure sensor (2) to a torque of 10 ± 2 N·m (89 ± 18 lb in).

Note: Only one of Tooling (E) is required.

1. Clean the counterbore for lip type seal (9) in housing assembly (2) .

2. Use Tooling (C) to install lip type seal (9) in housing assembly (2) . Install lip type seal (9)
so the face of the seal is flush with Surface (X) .

3. Use Tooling (B) and a suitable press to install bearing assembly (7) on shaft (8) .

Note: Ensure that the retainer is installed with the Marking "OUTSIDE" towards the gear.

4. Install retainer (6) . Use Tooling (B) and a suitable press to install gear (4) on shaft (8) .
Install gear (4) flush against bearing assembly (7) .

5. Install Tooling (D) over the shaft. The tapered edge will be facing outward.

6. Install the shaft, the bearing assembly, retainer (6) , and gear (4) in housing assembly (2) .
Use care not to damage the lip type seal.

7. Remove Tooling (D) from the shaft.

8. Install bolts (5) .

9. Use hand pressure and Tooling (E) to install seal assembly (10) on shaft (8) . Install seal
assembly (10) until the seal assembly is fully seated in the housing assembly.

10. Use a suitable press to install impeller (3) on the shaft. Install impeller (3) flush with the
shaft to a depth of 0 - 0.25 mm (0 - 0.010 inch).

11. Install O-ring seal (1) on housing assembly (2) .

End By: Install the auxiliary water pump (fresh water).

1. Use a suitable press to install impeller (42) onto shaft assembly (38).

Note: Ensure that impeller is oriented as shown in Illustration 1.

2. Place non-drive end of housing (39) on a flat surface.

3. Use Tooling (F) and a suitable press to install seal assembly (41) into non-drive end housing
(39).

4. Remove Tooling (F).

5. Place Tooling (E) on a flat surface and allow for clearance of the shaft assembly to be
inserted through the center hole of Tooling (E).

6. Place non-drive end housing (39) on top of Tooling (E).

7. Install port plate (40) into non-drive end housing (39).

Note: Align lug on port plate (40) with slot in non-drive end housing (39).

8. Use a suitable hand press to install shaft assembly (38) into non-drive end housing (39).
Press until the seal assembly contacts Tooling (E).

Note: Ensure that rotating face is fully seated on the shaft step. View through the water port.

9. Install distance ring (28) and O-ring seal (27) onto non-drive end housing (39).

10. Remove from Tooling (E).

11. Apply Tooling (G) onto the lip of lip seal (37).

12. Use Tooling (C) to install lip seal (37) into bearing housing (30) with the lip facing up.

13. Install bearing housing (30), bolts (31), and washers (32) onto the non-drive end housing.
Do not tighten bolts (31) at this time.

14. Place Tooling (L) on a suitable press. Place bearing (36) onto Tooling (L). Place the non-
drive end housing and shaft assembly on top of bearing (36). Press bearing (36) into the
bearing housing and onto the shaft.

15. Install retaining ring (33) and retaining ring (34). Ensure that the retaining rings are fully
seated in grooves.

16. Loosen bolts (31) and install 0.305 mm (0.0120 inch) 100-3063 Shims (35).

17. Tighten bolts (31) to a torque of 5 to 7 N·m (44 to 62 lb in).

18. Verify that the shaft turns freely.

19. Use straight edge and feeler gage or Tooling (H) to check the height of impeller (42). The
height of the impeller should be 0.11 mm to 0.16 mm (0.004 inch to 0.006 inch) below the
edge of distance ring (28).
