fertilizers can improve soil health and enhance crop productivity.
 Irrigation Techniques: I have studied various irrigation methods, including surface, sprinkler, and drip systems,
to understand their effects on water efficiency, crop development, and overall yield.

Practical Crop Production (PCP)

Practical Experience | ICAR "Learning by Earning Scheme"

Crops Managed:Brassica napus (rapeseed) and Zea mays (maize)

Supervisors: Dr. Vajinder Kalra and Dr. Amit Kaul, Department of Agronomy, PAU, Ludhiana

 Agronomic Practices: Gained hands-on experience in key farming activities, including land preparation, seed
treatment, sowing, irrigation, weed control, harvesting, and threshing for both Brassica napus and Zea mays.
 Crop Protection: Worked on integrated management strategies to protect crops from insect pests, diseases,
nutrient deficiencies, and weed infestations, ensuring healthy crop growth and optimal yields.

Soil Science

 Field Sampling: I have extensive experience in collecting soil, plant tissue, and irrigation water samples from the
field, ensuring accurate and reliable data for research and analysis.
 Laboratory Work: I’m skilled in testing soil and water, with hands-on experience using tools like pH meters and
EC meters to evaluate soil properties and nutrient content.
 Soil Analysis: I regularly assess various soil characteristics, including texture, structure, infiltration rate, pH,
electrical conductivity, moisture content, and both particle and bulk density, to better understand soil health and
fertility.

Research Traine: at Department of Soil Sciences, PAU, Ludhiana

 Hands-on training on soil sample testing and micronutrient analysis under Dr. Vivek Sharma
 (Soil Chemist), Department of Soil Sciences, PAU
 Collection and preparation of soil samples for analysis
 Estimation of Phosphorus (P) in soils by UV Spectroscopy
 Estimation of Potassium (K) in soils by Flame Photometry
 Micronutrients (Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn) analysis in soils by using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy
 Determination of pH and EC levels in soils

Plant Pathology:

 Plant Disease Diagnosis: I have hands-on experience diagnosing plant diseases, identifying the causal
organisms, and implementing effective management strategies to control them.
 Fungicide Use and Application: Skilled in calculating fungicide spray concentrations, applying pesticides
safely, and using appropriate methods to ensure effective disease control.
 Bio-Control Agents Production: I’ve been involved in the mass production of bio-control agents like
Trichoderma and Trichogramma species, contributing to eco-friendly pest management practices.

Entomology:

 Insect Collection and Management: Gained valuable experience in collecting, pinning,

labeling, and dissecting insect specimens from field and horticultural crops for research
and pest management purposes, working under the guidance of Dr. Jawala Jindal, Senior
Entomologist.

Apiculture and Sericulture:

 Honeybee and Silkworm Management: Acquired practical skills in managing

honeybees (apiculture) and silkworms (sericulture), with hands-on experience in rearing,
disease control, and production techniques to ensure healthy and efficient yields.

Plant breeding and Biotechnology

 Learned hand emasculation and pollination techniquesfor cross-pollinated and self-
pollinated crops
 Basic experience in agarose gel electrophoresis of DNA, in-vitro PCR amplification, and
Genomic DNA isolation
