DIGITAL
FOOTRPRINTS
A digital footprint is the data left behind from online
activities, including both active footprints (like posts
and interactions) and passive ones (such as
browsing history). These footprints impact privacy
and security, exposing personal data to risks like
identity theft. They also influence reputation and
career opportunities, as online presence is often
reviewed by employers. Furthermore, the pressure to
maintain a curated digital image can affect mental
health. As digital footprints grow, they raise ethical
and legal concerns around data privacy, stressing the
need for better regulation and personal responsibility.
DIGITAL SOCIETY AND
NETIZENS
A digital society is one where technology, particularly the
internet, plays a central role in communication, work, and
social interaction. Netizens, or internet citizens, are
individuals who actively engage in online spaces, using
platforms like social media, forums, and blogs to connect,
share, and communicate. As digital communication
becomes the norm, understanding social media etiquette
—such as being ethical,respectful,precise,polite,credible,
mindful of privacy, and engaging responsibly—is crucial.
This ensures positive interactions and protects users from
issues like cyberbullying, misinformation, and privacy
breaches, promoting a safer and more respectful online
environment.
Data protection involves safeguarding personal and sensitive
information from unauthorized access or misuse, ensuring privacy
and security in digital environments. Violations can lead to identity
theft, financial loss, and damage to individual privacy. Intellectual
Property Rights (IPR) protect the creations of individuals or
organizations, like patents, trademarks, and copyrights, ensuring
creators have control over their work. However, IPR violations, such as
plagiarism ,copyright or trademark infringement , can undermine
creativity, innovation, and economic growth. Public access refers to
the availability of information to the public, promoting transparency
and informed decision-making. Open-source software allows
developers to access, modify, and distribute code freely, fostering
collaboration, innovation, and lowering costs but raising concerns
over security and support.
Cybercrime includes activities like hacking,
where attackers gain unauthorized access to
CYBER CRIME systems to steal or manipulate data;
phishing, which tricks users into revealing
AND ITS personal information through fraudulent
emails or fake websites; fraudulent emails,
COMBATTING designed to scam people by posing as
trusted organizations; and ransomware,
which locks or encrypts data, demanding
payment for its release. Combating these
crimes involves implementing strong
cybersecurity measures and educating users
about recognizing suspicious activity.
Prevention strategies include using unique
passwords, multi-factor authentication,
avoiding suspicious email links or
attachments, and regularly backing up data.
The Indian Information Technology Act (IT Act) 2000 establishes legal guidelines for
electronic governance, digital transactions, and cybersecurity in India. It addresses
cybercrimes such as hacking, data theft, and cyber fraud, and validates electronic
contracts and digital signatures. The Act also includes provisions for the protection of
personal data, privacy, and penalties for violations. Amendments to the Act have
strengthened regulations to tackle emerging cyber threats, ensuring secure online
environments for businesses and individuals in India.
IMPACT ON
Prolonged use of digital devices can
HEALTH cause eye strain, headaches, and
blurred vision, often referred to as
"digital eye strain." It also leads to poor
posture, resulting in neck, back, and
shoulder pain. Extended screen time can
contribute to a sedentary lifestyle,
increasing the risk of obesity, heart
disease, and poor circulation.
Additionally, excessive device use
disrupts sleep patterns, leading to
insomnia and fatigue due to blue light
exposure. These physical impacts
highlight the need for balanced
technology use and regular breaks
