ChatGPT Prompts for

Language Learning

The prompts in this guide are categorized based on what they help you with, so you can easily find
what you need. Under each prompt, you'll also find a shorter version for quick use.

Pro Tip: ChatGPT is smart—there’s no need to waste time making your requests extra polite or
grammatically perfect. Keep them short and to the point for faster, more efficient results.

If you're using the pro version of ChatGPT (which I highly recommend—it’s worth every dollar), you
can upload files for easier studying with specific content. It also has an advanced voice feature, which

Pro Tips

Be direct and specific

❌ "Help me learn French."

✅ Better: "Explain the difference between ‘savoir’ and ‘connaître’ with examples."
ChatGPT works best when you tell it exactly what you want. Avoid overly broad requests and get
straight to the point.

Save time by skipping politeness

❌ "Could you please explain the grammar rule for past participles in Spanish?"
✅ Better: "Past participles in Spanish—how do they work?"
ChatGPT isn’t a human tutor, so you don’t need to be polite. The shorter and clearer your request, the
better.

Use ChatGPT like an interactive tutor

Ask ChatGPT to:

Correct your mistakes without giving the right answer immediately (to make you think)
Act like a native speaker who doesn't know English so you’re forced to practice
Adapt explanations to your level (e.g., "Explain this to me like I’m an A2 learner")

Get ChatGPT to challenge you

Instead of just explaining things, make ChatGPT quiz you:

✅ "Give me five fill-in-the-blank exercises on past tense verbs."
✅ "I’ll write three sentences in (language)—tell me if they’re correct but don’t fix them yet."
Use the ‘continue’ trick for long responses

If ChatGPT’s answer gets cut off, just type:

"Continue."
"Give me more examples."
"Expand."

Train it to speak like a native

If ChatGPT’s responses sound robotic, tell it to adjust:

✅ "Write this like a casual native speaker."
✅ "Make this sound more formal/professional."
✅ "Give me a slang version of this sentence."
Make the most of ChatGPT Pro (if you have it)

Upload files → Use it to practice with your own textbooks, Anki decks, or study notes
Advanced voice mode → Have real spoken conversations with ChatGPT
Faster, more accurate responses → Pro handles complex grammar and nuanced corrections
better
