Instructions to Candidates.
This paper consists of two sections; A and B. It has six examination items.
Section A has two compulsory items.
Sections B has parts I and II. Answer one item from each part.
Answer four examination items in all.
You may use diagrams where applicable to illustrate your answers.
Any additional item(s) answered will not be scored.
All responses must be written in the answer booklet(s) provided.
SECTION A:

MAP SKILLS:
Item 1.
Ben stays in Buganga (875951) a village in Lukaya (East Africa) series Y732,
part of sheet 79/2, Edition 1 U.S .D and would like to move to the village at
752844 to establish a coffee factory. His colleagues want to fuel his car and
move along with him but little do they know how long it would take them
because a litre of diesel costs 4500/= and can cover 2km.
Task:
1. Intervene in Ben and his friends’ condition to get a possible solution for
their journey.
The environmental authorities in the area want to deny Ben from
constructing the coffee factory though it would bring development in the
area.
(ii) Write an article between 100 – 200 words about the environmental
authorities decision.

Item 2.
Lake Victoria is one of Africa’s largest fresh water reservoirs. It has
encouraged the fishing activities and this contributes a lot to the socio-
economic development of the East African States. However, the ministry in
charge of fisheries has noticed a great decline in fish species which has as
well affected the exportation of fish and their products.
Task:
(i) Illustrate the information given in the photograph.
(ii) Make a write-up of 200 – 300 words addressing the concern in the
scenario.
SECTION B:

This section has two parts I and II.
Part I
Answer one item from this part.
Item 3.
A river flows in 3 major stages which are youthful, mature and senile stages.
On 23rd/05/2024, one of the televisions NTV in its News announced the
flooding of river Nyamwamba in Kasese district and a lot of features were
noticed along this river. The communities living in the area where river
Nyamwamba flows are scared of the consequences of the flooding and have
called upon the ministry of disaster preparedness to intervene.
Task:
Write an article addressing the major issues in the scenario.
Item 4.
East Africa has various rocks which were formed differently and have various
effects on peoples’ life styles. The UNRA (Uganda National Roads Authority)
is in a serious search for granites as well as Hima cement searching for
limestone.
However, the top management in these two sectors has limited knowledge
on the two rocks being searched on by their employees.
Task:
As a learner that has studied about rocks, make a write up to address the
major challenge in the scenario.
Part II.
Answer one item from this part.
Item 5.
China is an urban centre due to the large number of people, buildings and
ready service delivery Shanghai one of the most urbanized city in China grew
and developed due to various factors. However, Shanghai’s growth as an
urban centre has raised threats to the Chinese government.
Task;

Write a letter to the Chinese government with focus on Shanghai as a
developed urban city.
Item 6.
In Africa, Road transport is commonly used by different countries, Bulky
goods
are carried using road transport and it is less costly. People of Gambia, one
of the countries that commonly use road transport is threatening to stage a
strike due to the state of the roads in the country.
