Preface

The publication of DSM-5-TR brings updates

to the diagnostic classification and coding of DSM-5
mental disorders, as well as clarifications to the
diagnostic criteria for more than 70 disorders. For
quick reference, clinicians may find useful this small
and convenient manual that contains only the DSM-
5-TR Classification (i.e., the complete list of
disorders, subtypes, specifiers, and diagnostic codes
by DSM-5-TR chapter), an updated section
describing use of the manual, and updated DSM-5
diagnostic criteria sets and coding notes. The Desk
Reference to the Diagnostic Criteria From DSM-5-TR
is meant to be used in conjunction with the fully
updated DSM-5-TR. Proper use of the Desk
Reference requires familiarity with the text
descriptions for each disorder that accompany the
criteria sets. The DSM-5-TR text descriptions have
also been comprehensively updated to reflect the
most recent literature and the impact of culture,
racism, and discrimination on psychiatric diagnosis.
This handy reference provides all updated ICD-
10-CM codes, coding notes, and recording
procedures included in DSM-5-TR, including
diagnostic criteria for the new diagnosis of prolonged
grief disorder. Newly available are also symptom
codes for indicating current (and past history of)
suicidal behavior and nonsuicidal self-injury.
Clinicians will find additional reference information
in DSM-5-TR, including Section III: Emerging
Measures and Models (containing assessment
measures, updated text on psychiatric diagnosis and
culture, cultural formulation and interviews, an
alternative DSM-5 model for personality disorders,
and conditions for further study) and the DSM-5-TR
Appendix (containing alphabetical and numerical
ICD-10-CM code listings of DSM-5 diagnoses).
Assessment measures and additional information are
available online at www.psychiatry.org/dsm5.
See www.dsm5.org for periodic DSM-5-TR coding
and other updates.

DSM-5-TR Classification

Before each disorder name, ICD-10-CM codes are

provided. Blank lines indicate that the ICD-10-CM
code depends on the applicable subtype, specifier, or
class of substance. For periodic DSM-5-TR coding
and other updates, see www.dsm5.org.
Following chapter titles and disorder names, page
numbers for the corresponding text or criteria are
included in parentheses.
Note for all mental disorders due to another
medical condition: Insert the name of the etiological
medical condition within the name of the mental
disorder due to [the medical condition]. The code and
name for the etiological medical condition should be
listed first immediately before the mental disorder
due to the medical condition.
