COURSE OUTLINE FOR BIOLOGY OF HEALTH CARE
1st Semester-2024-2025
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course examines the role of biology in healthcare through an in-
depth exploration of an elected group of anatomical and physiological
conditions and topics that challenge medicine in the twenty-first century.
Specific issues addressed in the course include.
The cell: healthcare under a microscope
The heart in medicine
Neurology and psychology in medicine
Healthcare’s approach to injury and trauma
Medicines in medicine
Lecture and laboratory combine thinking and quantitative reasoning
that enable students to investigate and analyze these healthcare issues and
simultaneously gain an understanding of the scientific worldwide, the role of
science in history and society, the enterprise of science, and the process of
scientific injury.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
1. Understand the cell structures and functions, as well as their
interactions with the environment, and cell growth and development;
2. Identify and describe the anatomical and physiological part of the
heart and its different cardiac applications and emergencies;
3. Discuss the different neurological and psychological disorders and their
treatment/prevention and cite the significant role of neurology and
psychology in healthcare;
4. Demonstrate an understanding on the different healthcare’s approach
to injury and trauma;
5. Recognize the importance of pharmacology and its significant effect of
drugs to the human body;
6. Conduct research on the different controversies, challenges and
advances of medicine in the 21st century;
7. Recognize the world’s trend and issues on healthcare as well as the
underlying ethical principles and implications; and
8. Inform with the recent nature of COVID 19 its diagnosis, treatment,
findings and its possible control
