THE USING OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Artificial intelligence is actually an umbrella term for various areas of computing

including robotics, machine learning, and artificial neural networking. Though these
areas all initiate from the common starting point—using computing technology to
simulate the behavior of the human mind—each represents a distinct area of
technological exploration.
In other words, AI is not just one specific innovation, but a catch-all for a wide range
of innovative pursuits. Notable innovations which employ some measure of AI include
self-driving cars, strategic gaming systems, and digital voice assistants. Each of these
applications demonstrates the ways in which an ―intelligent agent‖ can be taught to
simulate human thinking, and consequently, to refine its own performance of tasks as
conditions dictate.
In spite of its potential for innovation, there are many who have warned, since the
inception of the AI concept in the 1950s, of its hidden perils. In fact, as the concept
emerged in the public consciousness, it also became a touchstone issue for ethicists,
philosophers, and writers concerned over the existential threat of AI run amok.
Artificial intelligence is an existential threat to humanity on several levels. From a
philosophical and ethical perspective, critics have expressed concern that attempts at
simulating human thinking may threaten the singularity of human sentience with
potentially catastrophic results. Many of these catastrophic results have become the
fodder of dystopian science fiction, where authors have explored post-apocalyptic
realities prompted by artificial intelligence which has become ―superintelligent,‖ and
thus, autonomous. In its autonomy, machinery may consequently pose a threat to human
continuity. More immediate concerns cited by detractors include the danger that
increased automated machinery in various industry might ultimately replace human
workers and lead to mass unemployment and the risk of inherent racial and
socioeconomic bias in machine-learning algorithms.
This discussion informs the two points of view in the AI debate. These are not
diametrically opposed views, but instead, reflect the duality of artificial intelligence—
both its promise and its perils. It is entirely possible for an individual to support the
progress suggested by artificial intelligence but also to express reservation about the
threat of unrestrained AI.

The Pros and Cons of Offline School in the Midst of a Pandemic The Covid-19 pandemic
affects many aspects of our lives, including school. Schools are held online at students’
respective home. However, there is a discourse that schools will be reopened in July 2020 or
January 2021.
Many parents are worried their children will have to return to school in the near future. It is
because some local governments have included plans for reopening schools in the new
normal policy. For example, Central Java Education and Culture Office will enforce the
implementation of the new normal in its region starting July 2020. Some options emerges
such as imposing a shifting system, limiting the number of students, and implementing
existing health protocols.
On the other hand, epidemiologist dr. Dicky Budiman advises not to open the school until the
situation gets better. He says that schools reopening is risky, and it probably rises to the
second wave of the coronavirus. The students can go back to schools only if the preparation
is done and screening process is fulfilled. Furthermore, if the screening process is not
fulfilled, schools reopening is not recommended for it is dangerous.
In the end, Offline School can only be done if the situation in our country gets better, or zero
case. Since the case is still rising these days, online school is the best option to avoid the new
cluster.

What are the Pros and Cons of Banning Plastic Bags?

There are two sides to every argument right? Yet when you stack the advantages of
implementing a plastic bag ban against the disadvantages, one thing becomes clear – there
really isn’t a good reason to oppose a ban on disposable plastic bags.

Most plastic bags end up in landfills or as litter and no matter how you tabulate the
numbers, plastic bags do not safely break down and it costs money to pick up litter. People
and groups against banning plastic bags attempt to diminish the harmful and damaging
realities of these facts. Most of the reasons bandied about by those who contest plastic bag
bans are not so many reasons, as they are counterarguments against valid realities to
implementing a ban.

Groups opposed to bag bans have argued that while litter does contribute to the death of
thousands of marine animals each year, it is not fair to single out plastic bags as the cause.
The ―plastic bags aren’t only to blame‖ argument goes on to explain that lost or
abandoned fishing gear is also responsible for the wrongful death of marine animals and a
plastic bag ban does not address the entire problem. This ―all or nothing‖ rationale is
not only weak, but it is also short-sighted.

Just because there is a wide variety of litter in our oceans does not mean we should sit by
and not attempt to begin to fix the plastic problem. Solving parts of a problem—with
products like eco-friendly reusable bags—ultimately serves to contribute to a greater
solution.
Opposing groups have also claimed that cleaning up plastic bag litter is not that expensive
and municipalities that claim financial savings as a result of implementing a ban are not
portraying the numbers accurately. To that, we say that no matter how much money is
spent cleaning up litter, it is too much. When money is directed to cleaning up litter, that
means there is less money to fix infrastructure and build communities.
