Environmental Issue:

Global warming and Climate change

As we all know green house gases such as mathane, carbon dioxide, nitrous
oxide and more is the primary cause for global warming which in turn causes
climate change, and controlling the numbers of such gases in our
atmosphere is a must if we were to stop climate change.

Methane is a potent greenhouse gas, contributing significantly to global

warming, it’s the second largest Contributor: Methane is the second largest
contributor to global warming after carbon dioxide (CO2) and stronger Heat
Trapping: A methane molecule traps more heat than a CO2 molecule, but it
has a shorter lifespan in the atmosphere (7-12 years) lastly, scientists
estimate that the increase in methane concentration in the atmosphere is
responsible for 20-30% of climate warming since the Industrial Revolution

Technological solution:

As the data indicates mathane contribute largely to climate change and

global warming, for such modern problems needs modern solution.

Meet the bio gas, Biogas is a clean-burning fuel made from rotting stuff
like food scraps and animal manure. To make it, you basically let this stuff
rot in a sealed container without any air (anaerobic digestion). The rotting
process creates biogas, which is mostly methane a flammable gas. You
can then use this gas to cook or heat things. Think of it as nature’s
recycling program for waste, turning trash into treasure.

However biogas technology is not fully developed existing biogas

technologies are not as efficient as they could be this limits large-scale
production and makes it difficult to meet the energy needs of a growing
population and needs further innovations and through the help of the
technological advancement of the 21st century new technology can be
implemented to make advancement and innovations of the biogas
technology, to address the problem surrounding biogas, these innovations
are as follows

 Enhanced Anaerobic Digestion: Advanced techniques like

Sequential Multiple Anaerobic Stages with Hydrogen (SMASH) and
multistage anaerobic digestion optimize the breakdown of organic
matter, leading to higher biogas yields and greater efficiency.
Nutrient recovery technologies remove inhibitors, allowing for
higher volumes of diverse feedstocks.

 Feedstock Diversification: Innovations now allow for the use of a

wider range of feedstocks beyond traditional agricultural waste and
manure. This includes food waste, fecal slurry, energy crops, and
industrial organic waste. Research continues into using
lignocellulosic biomass (straws, pulps, etc.

 Biogas Upgrading and Utilization: Biogas upgrading technologies

remove impurities like carbon dioxide, creating high-purity
biomethane. This can then be injected into natural gas grids or used
as transportation fuel].

 Co-digestion: New research explores using multiple feedstocks

synergistically to increase biogas production. Studies also focus on
optimizing the speed of decomposition and flow of substrates to
improve efficiency].
Implementing Advanced Biogas Technology for Climate Change
Mitigation

Implementing biogas as a solution to the overgrowing problem of climate

change and global warming by mitigating further accumulation of green
house gases to our atmosphere requires global effort and cooperation to
take effect, but even with global collaboration it will take decades to
completely control the green house gases emissions that causes global
warming, as well as climate change.

Advanced biogas technology offers a promising solution to combat

climate change and global warming. It involves harnessing the power of
anaerobic digestion, a process where microorganisms break down organic
waste in the absence of oxygen, producing biogas a renewable energy
source.

Key Benefits of Advanced Biogas Technology

 Reduced Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Biogas production captures

methane, a potent greenhouse gas, preventing its release into the
atmosphere. This significantly reduces the impact on global
warming.
 Renewable Energy Source: Biogas can replace fossil fuels for
electricity generation, heating, and transportation. This transition
reduces reliance on non-renewable energy sources, contributing to
a cleaner energy mix.

 Waste Management: Biogas production effectively manages organic

waste, diverting it from landfills and reducing methane emissions
associated with decomposition.

 Sustainable Agriculture: Digestate, a byproduct of anaerobic

digestion, is a nutrient-rich fertilizer that can enhance soil health
and reduce the need for synthetic fertilizers.

This diagram illustrates a community-based system for utilizing biogas

technology. Let’s break down each component and its role:

1. The Community: This is the central hub, providing the input materials
and benefiting from the outputs.
2. Inputs:
 Farm: The farm contributes manure, a primary feedstock for the
anaerobic digester. The farm also benefits from the final products.
 Food Agro Products: Food waste and other agro-products from the
community are also fed into the digester.

3. Anaerobic Digester: This is the core of the system. It’s a closed

environment where microorganisms break down organic matter
(manure and food waste) in the absence of oxygen. This process
generates biogas and digestate.

4. Outputs:

 Biogas (Renewable Energy): This is a valuable output used in

several ways:
 Generate Electricity: Biogas can be burned to generate
electricity for the community.
 Supply to Kitchen: Biogas can be used as cooking fuel in homes.
 Biofertilizer: The digestate, a byproduct of anaerobic digestion, is
a nutrient-rich material used as a fertilizer.
 Use in own agro-farm: The community can use the biofertilizer
to improve soil fertility on their farms.
 Sell to farm: The biofertilizer can also be sold to other farms,
generating income for the community.
 Nutrient-rich Product: Another byproduct of the anaerobic
digestion process. The diagram doesn’t specify its exact use, but
it implies it’s a valuable resource for the farm.

The diagram shows a closed-loop system where organic waste from the
community and farms is converted into renewable energy (biogas) and
valuable fertilizer (biofertilizer). This system promotes sustainability by
reducing waste, generating energy, and improving soil fertility – all
benefiting the community.
Biogas offers a cleaner, cheaper way to cook and light your homes, using
food waste and animal manure. This reduces reliance on expensive,
polluting fuels, improving health and the environment. The leftover
fertilizer from the process boosts crop yields, increasing food production
and income. It’s a community project, creating jobs and strengthening
local resources. Let’s build a healthier, wealthier future together with
biogas!
