Preface:
This assignment explores the construction and application of Green’s functions for
fractional differential equations (FDEs). Fractional calculus has gained significant
attention due to its ability to model real-world phenomena involving memory and
hereditary properties, such as diffusion in complex materials, biological systems,
and electrical circuits.
The study begins with an introduction to differential equations and boundary value
problems, followed by an in-depth discussion of Green’s functions and their role in
solving such equations. The assignment then focuses on constructing Green’s
functions for fractional differential equations, illustrating their practical use
through analytical methods and MATLAB simulations.
I extend my gratitude to my mentors and peers for their valuable guidance and
discussions, which have helped shape this work.

Introduction:
Differential equations are essential tools for modeling physical, engineering, and
biological systems. In particular, boundary value problems (BVPs) require
solutions that satisfy certain conditions at the boundaries of a domain. A powerful
method for solving such problems is the Green’s function method, which acts as
a fundamental response function for differential equations. This assignment
focuses on the construction of Green’s functions for fractional differential
equations (FDEs) and their application to solving BVPs.
Green’s Function:
For example, if we apply a force to a metal rod, the temperature distribution in the
rod depends on how heat spreads. The Green’s function helps describe this
spreading mathematically.
However, in fractional calculus, derivatives can have fractional orders, such as:

Conclusion
This assignment explored the construction and application of Green’s functions for
fractional differential equations (FDEs), demonstrating their effectiveness in
solving boundary value problems. Fractional calculus provides a powerful
framework for modeling systems with memory effects, making it highly relevant in
various scientific and engineering fields. By deriving the Green’s function and
implementing numerical solutions using MATLAB, we gained insights into the
behavior of fractional differential equations. The results highlight the importance
of Green’s functions in analytical and computational approaches to solving
complex differential equations. Future research can further extend these methods to
nonlinear and multi-dimensional problems.
