Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILO): Knowledge / skills + generic skills and behavioural aptitudes
CILO 1: Get a deep understanding of the entrepreneurial phenomenon and integrate key concepts in entrepreneurship.
CILO 2: Develop a theoretical framework to assess new business projects and provide students with the necessary tools to
analyze and solve some of the main problems young start-ups face in their development process.
CILO 3: Understand and be able to apply different strategies and tactics to create, capture and retain value from customers.
CILO 4: Learn how to define, measure and segment the target market. Be able to develop an effective value proposition and
an effective business model.
CILO 5: Improve interpersonal, argumentative, negotiation and presentation skills by experiencing the case study and
business simulation learning methodology.

• Students are required to have a good knowledge about entrepreneurship and business creation.
• Students are required to have a good understanding of start-up development process.
• Students are required to have a good understanding of management and marketing tools.
• Students are required to have a fair understanding of accounting and finance.
Track / Module / Course contents
• Business and negotiation simulation. Create a virtual company inside a concrete market. Define your competitive strategy.
Define your negotiation strategy and tactics. Undertake business negotiations with suppliers and customers. Assess the economic
and financial results obtained at the simulation. Present and explain your results.
• Entrepreneurship and new venture creation. General business creation model: people-companies-process- environment. From
a general business idea to a real entrepreneurial opportunity. Global entrepreneurship. The business plan. Lean start-up.
• Value proposition and business model. Defining and measuring the target market. Strategic segmentation. Empathy map and
the profile of the buyer persona. The value map of the company. Value proposition canvas. Business model canvas.
• Economic and financial issues in the start-up development process: financing the business, leverage and profitability, variable
and fixed costs, investments decisions, sales and income, costs and profits, break-even point, cash generation issues, etc.
• Value creation, value capture and value retention: Blue Ocean Strategy. Lead generation, client conversion and customer
retention. Revenue models. Life-time value and churn rates. Product innovation and digital transformation. Content marketing.
Breakdown of activities and work to be performed by learners
• Read and prepare sessions in advance. Participate during conceptual lectures.
• Read and solve business development mini cases. Discuss and argument in class the possible solutions to business cases.
• Undertake a business simulation where teams will have to negotiate among them to outperform its direct competitor.
• Study and undertake an individual written exam.

The assessment methods are directly related to the learning objectives stated above.
The Student will have to solve in groups different business mini cases and discuss/present their solutions to the rest of the class.
The Student will have to undertake in groups a business simulation and discuss/present their results to the rest of the class.
At the exam, students will have to undertake a written examination and solve a business case study based on the learning points
of the course.
