Introduction

Practice teaching is an important component towards becoming a teacher. It provides

experiences to student teachers in the actual teaching and learning environment. During

teaching practice, a student-teacher is given the opportunity to try the art of teaching before

actually getting into the real world of the teaching profession. Student-teachers also

know the value of teaching practice and they perceive it as the important aspect of their

preparation for the teaching profession since it provides for the real interface between student

hood and membership of the profession.

This portfolio comprises a quarter’s worth of work of Practice Teaching in Don

Ricardo Briz Central Elementary School. This portfolio should be read as an overview of the

importance of Practice Teaching in Teaching Career. This portfolio provides a way to

document the substance and complexity of teaching as a teaching career and can be used to

structure self-assessment as well as peer-review. This portfolio helps us Pre-Service Teachers

to document and assess students' learning and thinking, and development.

History of the School

Don Ricardo Briz Central Elementary School is now one of Tagum City's most
prominent public schools, particularly in Tagum North District, producing competent
elementary graduates since it was established.
The school was founded by the late Mrs. Acme Briz, a daughter-in-law of the late
Mrs. FelizaVda de Briz and a teacher at Apokon Elementary School at the time. The Deed of
Donation was executed on August 22, 1968, and the documents were completed and donated
to the Municipal Government of Tagum, Dr. Herminigildo C. Baloyo was the Municipal
Mayor at the time. In the presence of Mrs. Eulalia B. Basanes, the District Supervisor, Mr.
Restituto S. Viloria, and the Schools Division Superintendent, Mr. Bonifacio Zafra and
Alfredo Casiano, he accepted the Deed of Donation from the heirs of Don Ricardo Briz.
Since the school site is less than a hectare, the principal, Mrs. Mercedes H. Cano,
urged the family to donate the 2,727 meters as an additional school site through the
negotiation of Mrs. Prudencia Madjus, one of the late Mr. Gaudencio Melendres' daughters.
On February 10, 1983, the donor to the donee prepared the Deed of Donation. The DECS
presented by Mr. Teofilo Gomez, the Schools Division Superintendent accepted the Deed of
Donation. Then on August 29, 1988, the additional school site was titled under the name of
the DECS. Then on August 29, 1988, the additional school site was titled under the name of
the DECS.
Then, under the administration of Mr. Jose M. Aquino, a bust was put up in the
Heroes Park last 2006, in honor of the two Donors, Don Ricardo Briz and Mr. Gaudencio
Melendres. A week after the unveiling of the bust of the two donors, the Certificate of Land
title was given to Mr. Jose M. Aquino, which shows that the school is the owner of the school
site.
