SUBJECT : Spot Report re: Shooting Incident

1. On or about March 25, 2025 at around 6:20 PM, a shooting incident occurred
in front of Poblacion Elementary School, located in Poblacion District 1,
MacArthur, Leyte. The victim was identified as one Mauricio Aquero
Fernandez, 21 years old, single, a college student of Eastern Visayas State
University – Dulag Campus, and a resident of Tuyo, MacArthur, Leyte.

2. Initial investigation revealed that the victim was walking along the national
highway when a lone unidentified gunman aboard a red Honda Beat 110
motorcycle with an unknown plate number suddenly stopped and shot the
victim four times in the torso. The suspect immediately fled northward after the
attack.

3. The victim, Mauricio Aquero Fernandez, who sustained multiple gunshot

wounds, was rushed to Abuyog District Hospital but was declared dead upon
arrival.

4. The motive behind the incident remains under investigation.

1. Reference: Spot report on Shooting Incident dated March 25, 2025.

2. This pertains to the shooting incident that transpired in front of Poblacion

Elementary School, Poblacion District 1, MacArthur, Leyte, at around 6:20 PM
on March 25, 2025. The victim, identified as Mauricio Aquero Fernandez, 21
years old, single, a college student of Eastern Visayas State University – Dulag
Campus, and a resident of Tuyo, MacArthur, Leyte, was shot by an unidentified
suspect riding a red Honda Beat 110 motorcycle with an unknown plate
number. The suspect fled northward immediately after the attack.

3. The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to Don Marcel
General Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. His cadaver was
transported to the Regional Crime Laboratory Office for autopsy examination,
which confirmed the cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds to the torso.

4. A follow-up investigation is ongoing to determine the identity of the suspect and

establish a possible motive behind the crime. CCTV footage from nearby
establishments is being reviewed, and witness testimonies are being gathered.

5. Coordination has been made with intelligence units and adjacent police
stations for further leads. Updates on significant developments will be
submitted as soon as available.

2. Per above references, on March 25, 2025, at 6:20 PM, a shooting incident
occurred in front of Poblacion Elementary School, MacArthur, Leyte, resulting
in the death of Mauricio Aquero Fernandez, 21 years old, a college student.
The unidentified suspect, riding a red Honda Beat 110 motorcycle, fled the
scene. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead
on arrival at Abuyog District Hospital. A follow-up investigation led to the
identification of the suspect, Reynaldo Cruz, 27 years old, of Brgy. San Vicente,
MacArthur, Leyte. Evidence, including CCTV footage and witness testimonies,
confirmed his involvement. A case for Homicide (RA 7659) was filed on March
29, 2025, under NPS Docket No. LP-0304-2025, assigned to Atty. Jonathan
Reyes, Assistant City Prosecutor. Criminal Case No. 2025-0369 was lodged
under RTC Branch 18, with bail set at PHP 200,000.00.
3. On March 30, 2025, a joint operation by MacArthur MPS and Leyte Police
Provincial Office led to the successful arrest of Reynaldo Cruz in Brgy. San
Vicente. He was detained at Leyte Provincial Jail and is awaiting trial. The case
is now filed and pending court proceedings.
