judgment.

Winflows Design Simulator Quick Start

There are several ways to start a projection in the Winflows Design Simulator. Prior to utilizing one of these routes
to your projection it is recommended to know the following minimum requirements:
● Feed water temperature, TDS, Total Alkalinity and water source and SDI
● Product flow rate or feed flow rate
● Preferred RO or NF element type
● See additional training resources for more information on using Winflows Design Simulator for accurate
project projections.
The Winflows Design Simulator landing page offers a comprehensive suite of design tools guiding users quickly
through creating design projections in a few clicks
● Template Library featuring pre-established system configurations
● Application Wizard recommends system designs based on water source and flow rate specifications
● RO-EDI Machine Selector populated with pre-configured systems
● Design Flowsheet facilitating system design via drag-and-drop functionality

Select a Preset Design Template

The Template Library is advantageous once the requisite configuration is established. It offers a selection of pre-
configured designs, encompassing Double Pass SW systems and Double Pass RO systems integrated with EDI,
which are readily available for implementation.

Upon selecting a template, the flowsheet interface is initiated. It is imperative to specify the feedwater parameters and
stream characteristics, followed by the subsequent modification of the array configuration to updated specifications.

Use the Application Wizard

The Application Wizard provides the optimal starting point for users seeking a fundamental design. In the initial stage,
the Application is chosen. This selection directs subsequent steps by pre-selecting the Feed Water and Pretreatment.

Following the input of the Product Flow or Feed Flow rate, several design options are presented upon execution of
the "View Results" command. The operator may then select the optimal option from the displayed results, and a
corresponding flowsheet will be automatically generated.

Use the RO-EDI Machine Selector

Veolia offers pre-engineered systems incorporating Reverse Osmosis (RO) and Reverse Osmosis-Electrodeionization
(RO-EDI) technologies. The RO-EDI Machine Selector enables the identification of suitable systems. Users can
ascertain the appropriate system by specifying the desired product flow rate or select it directly.

The Select Equipment Model field functions as a dropdown menu presenting Veolia's pre-engineered machinery
offerings, encompassing a range from pilot units to double-pass systems with EDI.
For those unfamiliar with specific machine types, an alternative input is the Nominal Product Flow Rate.
Upon submission, a selection of options corresponding to the specified flow rate will be displayed.

Start your projection project from scratch

The Design Flowsheet feature is central to the design program. It can be accessed through recommendations
provided by the design tools, such as the Template Library, Application Wizard, and RO-EDI Machine Selector.
Access is also possible by opening an existing project or by selecting the feature and initiating the design from a blank
canvas with drag-and-drop design functionality.

The process diagram is constructed by selecting and positioning various process operation icons from the left-hand
interface, then establishing the interconnections. This functionality affords significant adaptability, enabling the
development of intricate system configurations.
The upper left section of the interface is designated for file management.

The right-hand section gives access to diverse reports, including stream water composition and system hydraulic data.

Simply hover over each icon for a short description.

Upon selecting the designated icon, supplementary windows will appear, requiring the input of additional data. To
illustrate this process, three specific examples will be demonstrated on the following pages:
● Reverse Osmosis Array
● Electrodeionization (EDI) Input
● Argo Analyzer

Entering Reverse Osmosis Array Details

Drag and drop the Reverse Osmosis array into the configuration canvas and click the icon to open the details screen.

The RO Element Data serves as the central component for RO system design.
This involves configuring the array, selecting the element type, and defining other system parameters such as
backpressure and booster pump operation.

The characteristics of the chosen elements are displayed to adjust as needed and furthermore, the Array Recovery %
must be designated before transitioning from the RO Parameters to the Argo Analyze function.

Entering Electrodeionization (EDI) Inputs

The Winflows Design Simulator distinguishes itself through the integration of Reverse Osmosis (RO) design,
antiscalant dosing, and Electrodeionization (EDI) projection. Drag and drop the EDI system into the configuration
canvas and click the icon to open the details

Enter the criteria for the Stack Model and Product flow rate per Stack, the program determines the required number
of stacks and projects Product quality within the parts per billion (ppb) range. Uniquely, a specific Target Silica
Guarantee can be designated and remains applicable provided no projection warnings are displayed.

In addition to the EDI Design, supplementary details regarding Ventilation Sizing and Feed water guidelines are
provided, which are especially relevant when a Guarantee is requested.

Other basic operations for the system design are available, like chemical dosing, gas adjustment, spitting and
combination of streams and several possibilities of Energy recovery devices.
The adaptability of the Winflows Design Simulator allows for the creation of intricate designs within a single
projection, showcasing its versatility and potential to streamline the design process.
See the following page for an example.

8
Winflows Design Simulator Guide for version 5.0

For instance, consider a sophisticated configuration involving a double-pass reverse osmosis (RO) system integrated
with electrodeionization (EDI) and is outlined on the follow page.
This setup could also incorporate a concentrate stage featuring a recirculation loop for both the permeate from the
concentrate stage and the EDI concentrate.
This exemplifies the simulator's capacity to handle multifaceted designs with multiple interconnected processes and
feedback loops.

Argo Analyzer
Scaling poses a major challenge to maximizing the recovery rate in reverse osmosis/nanofiltration (RO/NF) systems.
The Argo Analyzer addresses this issue by offering predictive scaling analysis and recommending the optimal
Hypersperse antiscalant product to prevent scale formation. By determining the maximum achievable recovery rate
when using an antiscalant, the Winflows Design Simulator allows for enhanced system performance and efficiency.

Conclusion
In contrast to other design tools that require multiple steps to achieve a similarly complex projection, the Winflows
Design Simulator streamlines this process into a single, integrated environment.
This not only minimizes the potential for errors that often arise from transferring data between different projections but
also fosters a space for innovative design exploration.
Within the Winflows Design Simulator, engineers and designers can freely experiment with novel concepts,
immediately projecting and analyzing their feasibility and performance. This integrated approach promotes efficiency,
accuracy, and the generation of groundbreaking design solutions.
