Collecting ten play materials and evaluating them in terms of their merits and

Observing a group of junior/middle school children during the lunch break and

Visiting a special school and recording observations made on any one child with
special needs.
➢ Textiles and Clothing
Collecting samples of fabrics and comparing them on the basis of cost, durability,
appearance and suitability.
Identification of fibres-cotton, wool, silk and synthetics by the burning test.
Planning the interiors of a home through choice of colours and furnishing
materials of the bedroom, living room and dining room.
Care of Clothing; Laundering of cotton, silk and wool.
➢ Resource Management
Planning a system for recycling of waste produced by the school/home.
Preparation of compost pits.
Gardening: planting of herbs and medicinal plants and taking care of them.
Preparing a layout of the plan of the Home Science laboratory with complete
detailing of work centres, storage areas and placement of heavy and light
equipment.
Cleaning of glass panes, grills, sink (steel and ceramic), counter tops (marble,
granite and sand stones) and wooden shelves and electrical appliances like
refrigerator, oven and cooking stove (any five to be done.)
Preparing a family budget based on the information received from parents.
5. Mathematics
General instructions:
• Title page must be hand made only.
• It is compulsory to use one side blank project paper.
• Spiral binding is compulsory.
• Title page, certificate, preface, acknowledgement, index, conclusion and bibliography is must for
the project.
• At least 20 to 25 pages are required for your project work. Only for home budget project at least
• 15 to 20 pages are required.

Students will be required to do a minimum of four projects. Following is the suggested list of topics:
➢ Take a fast-moving consumer good (FMCG) like washing machine detergent. Analyze the
factors that determine the demand of this product. Present your findings in form of a class
presentation.
➢ Develop a hypothetical table of information for coffee that shows quantity demanded at various
prices and supply of coffee at these prices. Draw a demand curve and supply curve and show an
equilibrium price at which market is cleared of its supplies.
➢ Make a list of products for which you think demand is price inelastic and price elastic. Specify
the reasons you may think relevant for your analysis.
➢ Take a case of public enterprise which is about to privatized or has been recently privatized.
Analyze the pros and cons of such an exercise undertaken by the government. (The case of
VSNL or BALCO can be taken up).
➢ Take a case of a nationalized bank – visit any one of its branches in your city. Analyze the main
functions of this bank’s branch. Make a presentation to this effect.
➢ Recently rates of interests have been reduced on all the saving instruments. Carry out a survey
of 30 people in your area as to what is their reaction to this cut. The sample may consist of
salaried people, businesspeople and professionals.
➢ Take a case of five FMCGs – fast moving consumer goods - bathing soaps, toothpastes, facial
creams, shampoos, ball pens. Analyze as to how the market for these products is characterized
by product differentiation.
➢ Take the case of a company and analyze the production process in which all the factors that
you studied in your class, are used by the company to produce a product.

deposits and lending, and other functions performed by the bank.
