Writing Tasks

Sample Answers

Q1. Your school is organising a writing competition that will be judged by other students. The title is ‘A
Memorable Experience’.
Write about a memorable experience for the competition. This could be about:
• a place you have visited
• something you have done for the first time
• an event that you have attended, for example a party.
In your writing you should:
• describe what happened
• explain why it is memorable.

A Memorable Experience
One of the most memorable experiences of my life was the first time I travelled to the mountains. It was a
school trip to a hill station called Manali, and it was not only my first time going to the mountains, but also
the first time I travelled without my parents.
The journey began on a cold winter morning. I was excited and a little nervous as I boarded the bus with my
classmates and teachers. The ride was long, but the views were breathtaking—tall pine trees, winding roads,
and snow-covered peaks in the distance. As we climbed higher, the air grew colder, and for the first time in
my life, I saw snow falling from the sky. I will never forget how magical it felt to catch snowflakes on my
hands and watch them melt.
One of the highlights of the trip was when we visited Solang Valley. We went sledding down snowy slopes
and even tried zip-lining. At first, I was scared, but with the encouragement of my friends and teachers, I
gave it a try—and I’m so glad I did. Flying through the cold air, with the mountains all around me, was a
feeling of pure freedom.
What made this experience unforgettable wasn’t just the beauty of the place or the fun activities, but the
memories I made with my friends. We sang songs around a campfire, told stories, and shared laughter that
brought us closer together.
This trip will always remain special to me because it taught me how to be independent, brave, and open to
new experiences. Every time I think about it, I smile—and that’s why it will always be one of the most
memorable experiences of my life.

Q2. Write a letter to a friend or relative telling them you have lost something important or precious to you.
This could be about:
1
• something valuable or difficult to replace
• something you were looking after for somebody else
• something you have borrowed.
In your writing you should:
• describe what you have lost
• explain why it is important or precious to you.

Dear Aisha,
I hope you're doing well. I'm writing with a heavy heart to share something that’s been bothering me for the
past few days. I’ve lost something very important to me—my grandmother’s gold bracelet.
It all started last weekend when I wore it to a family gathering. The bracelet is not just a piece of jewelry—it
was a gift from my grandmother on my 15th birthday. She wore it for many years before passing it down to
me, and it always reminded me of her warmth and love. It was the only thing I had that truly made me feel
close to her.
After the event, I remember taking it off and placing it in my bag because I was afraid it might slip off. But
when I got home later that night, it was gone. I’ve searched everywhere—my room, my bag, the car, even
asked relatives if they had seen it—but there’s no sign of it. I feel so upset, not because of its value, but
because of the emotional connection I had with it.
I haven’t told Mum yet because I know she’ll be disappointed too, but I’m working up the courage. I just
wanted to tell you first because I know you’ll understand how much this meant to me. Please let me know if
you have any advice or if you’ve ever gone through something similar. I could really use a friend to talk to
right now.
Take care and write back soon.
Love,
Zara

Q3. Your school is planning to bury a large ‘time capsule box’ to be filled with some inventions that use
electricity. The capsule will be opened in the future so that people will be able to find out more about life in
the 21st century.
The head teacher has asked students to suggest some items to put in the capsule and will choose the best
ideas.
Select a device or machine powered by electricity that you think should go in the capsule and explain why.
Remember to include:
• what the invention is and all the things it can do
• why people find it so useful
• why you think it should be included in the time capsule.

2
A Device for the Time Capsule: The Smartphone
If I had to choose one invention powered by electricity to include in our school’s time capsule, I would
choose the smartphone. This single device represents so much about how we live in the 21st century, and I
believe people in the future would find it fascinating.
A smartphone is more than just a phone—it’s a camera, a computer, a map, a music player, a flashlight, and
even a personal assistant. It allows us to take photos and videos, send messages instantly, browse the
internet, play games, do online shopping, attend online classes, and much more. With the help of apps, we
can manage our health, track our fitness, learn new skills, or stay connected with people across the world.
People find smartphones incredibly useful because they combine so many tools into one portable device.
Whether students using them to study, families using video calls to stay in touch, or workers managing tasks
and emails on the go, smartphones have become a part of everyday life. It’s hard to imagine the modern
world without them.
I believe a smartphone should be included in the time capsule because it perfectly represents the technology
and lifestyle of our time. It shows how far we’ve come with communication, entertainment, and learning.
When someone in the future opens the capsule, they’ll be able to learn a lot about our generation just by
looking at this one powerful device.

Q4. Your local newspaper is planning to give awards to children and adults who have been brave and faced
a big challenge in life. They have asked readers to suggest people that deserve a prize.
Readers can nominate themselves, groups, family members, friends or even famous people that they admire
for facing a challenge.
Remember to include:
• who faced the challenge
• what the challenge was
• why you think they deserve an award.

A Brave Person Who Deserves an Award

I would like to nominate my older brother, Amir, for the bravery award. He is someone I truly admire
because of the way he faced one of the biggest challenges in his life—with strength, courage, and a positive
attitude.
Last year, Amir was diagnosed with a serious illness that required many hospital visits, tests, and treatments.
It was a frightening time for all of us, especially for him. Despite being in pain and missing school for
weeks, he never gave up. He stayed strong, kept smiling, and even encouraged the rest of us to stay hopeful.
What amazed me the most was how he helped other patients around him. While waiting for his treatments,
he would talk to younger children to cheer them up, or share jokes to lighten the mood in the hospital. He
didn’t just fight his own battle—he made the journey easier for others too.
Amir has now recovered and is back at school, continuing to work hard and enjoy life. I believe he truly
deserves this award, not just because he overcame a tough challenge, but because of the way he inspired
everyone around him during that difficult time.
3
He is a true example of bravery and kindness, and I am so proud to call him my brother.

Q5. Your local wildlife park is organising a writing competition. Winners will have their writing published
in the wildlife park magazine to encourage people to visit.
The title is ‘My Favourite Creature’. Write an entry for the competition.
Remember to include:
• a full description of your favourite creature
• what is interesting and special about the animal
• how you feel when you see it in the wildlife park.

My Favourite Creature
My favourite creature in the wildlife park is the majestic snow leopard. With its thick, smoky-grey fur, long
tail, and piercing pale green eyes, the snow leopard looks like a magical animal from a fairytale. Every time
I see one, I feel a mix of awe and wonder.
What makes the snow leopard so special is how rare and mysterious it is. In the wild, it lives high up in the
cold mountains where very few people can go. It moves so quietly and blends into the snowy rocks so well
that it’s often called the “ghost of the mountains.” Despite its strong and powerful body, it’s incredibly
graceful, able to leap across huge cliffs with ease.
The snow leopard is also important because it is endangered. There are only a few thousand left in the wild,
so seeing one in the wildlife park is a very special experience. The park helps protect this beautiful creature
and teaches visitors how to care about wildlife and nature.
Whenever I visit the wildlife park and watch the snow leopard resting or walking silently through its
enclosure, I feel peaceful and inspired. It reminds me how amazing animals are and how important it is to
protect them.
That’s why the snow leopard is my favourite creature—and why I hope more people will come to the park to
learn about it and fall in love with it too.

Q6. Write a diary entry for display in your school hall on Prize Giving Day. The subject is ‘A Memorable
Journey’.
Remember to include:
• a description about what happened
• what was so memorable about it
• your feelings at the time.

Diary Entry – A Memorable Journey

4
Date: Prize Giving Day
Dear Diary,
Today, as I sit here thinking about all the amazing memories this year has brought, one journey stands out
more than any other—our school trip to the historical city of Jaipur. It was not just a journey through
places, but through time, culture, and friendship.
We left early in the morning, buzzing with excitement. The bus was filled with laughter, snacks, and music.
As we arrived in Jaipur, I was instantly amazed by the pink buildings, the grand palaces, and the lively
markets. We visited the Amber Fort, where we climbed to the top and looked out over the whole city. The
view took my breath away. I felt like I was in a different world.
But what made the journey truly memorable was not just the places—it was the experiences. I learned how
to read an old map, rode a camel for the first time (which was both scary and exciting!), and even tried
traditional Rajasthani food. I also grew closer to my classmates—sharing rooms, telling stories at night, and
helping each other along the way.
At the time, I felt a mix of joy, curiosity, and gratitude. Joy for the fun we were having, curiosity about
everything new I was seeing, and gratitude for the chance to be part of such a special trip. I didn’t want it to
end!
Looking back now, that journey taught me more than any textbook could. It reminded me how big and
beautiful the world is, and how important it is to explore, learn, and enjoy every moment.
This journey will always hold a special place in my heart.

Q7. The author of ‘The Boy Who Met A Whale’ is going to visit your school to judge a writing competition
about the next part of the story when the boat comes to shore.
Write your entry for the competition.
The title is ‘What Happens Next?’
Remember to include:
• what happens next
• who or what is in the boat

What Happens Next?

The boat drifted gently toward the shore, its wooden sides creaking softly as the waves pushed it forward.
Razi, Shifa, and Zheng held their breath, their eyes fixed on the shadowy figure sitting at the front of the
boat. The sky was glowing orange with the setting sun, and the salty wind carried the sound of seabirds
calling in the distance.
As the boat touched the sand, a tall man stood up slowly. His clothes were torn and wet, and his face was
hidden under a wide, sea-stained hat. In his hands, he held something wrapped in an old cloth. The children
stepped closer, hearts pounding.

5
“It’s him…” Zheng whispered. “It’s the man from my father’s map!”
The man looked up, revealing a kind but tired face with eyes as blue as the ocean. “You must be Razi,” he
said in a deep, calm voice. “I’ve been searching for you.”
Inside the cloth was a strange glowing object—a piece of the legendary treasure of Serendib! But it was
more than just treasure. The man explained that it held the power to calm storms and guide lost sailors.
Pirates had tried to steal it, but he had protected it all this time.
Suddenly, a loud horn echoed from behind the cliffs. A pirate ship had followed the boat to shore!
Without wasting a second, Razi, Shifa, and Zheng helped the man hide the glowing stone. Then, they
disappeared into the jungle, ready to face whatever came next. They knew this was only the beginning of a
much greater adventure—one that would test their courage and friendship like never before.

Q8. You have gone to stay with a relative or friend for the summer holidays. Write a letter to let your family
back at home know about your stay.
Remember to include:
• a description of where you are staying
• some details of your activities
• your reactions and feelings.
Dear Mum and Dad,
I hope you’re both doing well! I’m writing to tell you all about my summer holidays so far—I'm having such
an amazing time staying with Auntie Salma and Uncle Rayhan!
They live in a lovely cottage just outside the city, surrounded by green hills and tall trees. Every morning, I
wake up to the sound of birds chirping and the smell of fresh bread from the bakery down the lane. The
weather has been sunny most days, which is perfect for all the fun we’ve been having.
So far, we’ve gone on nature walks, had a picnic by the river, and even visited a local animal farm where I
got to feed goats and hold a baby rabbit! In the afternoons, I help Auntie Salma in her garden. We’ve planted
tomatoes, picked strawberries, and she’s even teaching me how to grow herbs. In the evenings, Uncle
Rayhan and I play chess, and he’s surprisingly good at it—though I did win one match!
What I love most is how peaceful and different it feels here. There’s no rush, no noise from traffic, just fresh
air and relaxing days. It’s a nice break from our usual routine, and I feel really happy and calm.
I do miss you both (and Coco, of course!), but I’ll be home soon with lots of stories and maybe even a jar of
homemade strawberry jam to share.
Sending you lots of love,

Q9. Two conservation organisations have visited your school to ask for support to raise money for their own
projects. Students must now choose which organisation to give money to.
The two organisations are:

6
1. Endangered wildlife protection
2. Environment preservation.
Choose one of these and prepare some writing for your school community persuading them to support it.
Remember to include:
• a description of the project you want to support
• why you have chosen this project.

Support Endangered Wildlife Protection

Dear Students and Staff,
I believe we should support the Endangered Wildlife Protection Project. This organisation works hard to
protect animals that are at risk of disappearing forever. From the gentle orangutan in the rainforest to the
powerful snow leopard in the mountains, many incredible species are being pushed to the edge of extinction
because of habitat loss, poaching, and climate change.
This project raises money to rescue injured animals, protect natural habitats, and help endangered species
breed and survive in the wild. Without this kind of support, future generations might only see these animals
in books and photos.
I have chosen this project because animals can’t speak for themselves—they need us to be their voice. Every
creature has a role in nature, and if we lose even one species, it can affect the entire ecosystem. Helping this
organisation means we are helping protect the beauty and balance of the natural world.
Let us stand up for those who can’t stand up for themselves. Let us help protect endangered wildlife before it
is too late.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
Support Environment Preservation
Dear Students and Staff,
I would like to encourage everyone to support the Environment Preservation Project. This organisation
works to keep our planet clean, safe, and healthy by planting trees, reducing pollution, cleaning up rivers
and oceans, and fighting climate change.
Right now, the Earth is facing serious problems—rising temperatures, plastic-filled oceans, and forests being
destroyed. This organisation’s work is essential because it helps protect the environment that all living
things depend on, including us.
I have chosen this project because saving the environment means saving our future. Clean air, fresh water,
healthy forests—these are not luxuries, they are necessities. If we do not take care of the Earth now, the next
generations will suffer the consequences.
Supporting this project means we are taking action today to make tomorrow better. Together, we can be the
change the planet needs.
Sincerely,

Q10. The helicopter rescued a small group of people and Pigeon the cat from the collapsing building. But
what will happen next? Continue the story from this point.
The title is: ‘Helicopter Rescue!’
Remember to include:
• the flight on the helicopter
• where the helicopter takes them
• what they did next.
Helicopter Rescue!
The helicopter blades roared above the smoke as the rescue team pulled the last person aboard—an elderly
woman clutching a frightened, fluffy cat named Pigeon. As the building groaned and crumbled beneath
them, the helicopter rose into the sky, just in time. Everyone on board let out a breath they didn’t realize
they were holding.
Inside, the mood was tense but full of relief. Some people sat in silence, shaking from the shock, while
others quietly checked on each other. The pilot, a calm woman with a strong voice, spoke through her
headset. “We’re taking you to the emergency centre at Hilltop Stadium. You’re safe now.”
Pigeon, still trembling, nestled into a blanket offered by a kind rescue worker. A young boy who had lost his
shoes in the chaos gently stroked the cat’s fur, and for the first time, Pigeon began to purr.
After a short but bumpy flight through smoke-filled skies, the helicopter landed on a wide field lit by
floodlights. Paramedics and volunteers rushed forward to help. Everyone was wrapped in warm blankets,
given water, and checked for injuries. Families who had been separated during the disaster were reunited
with hugs and tears.
As for Pigeon, she quickly became the hero of the shelter. Children gathered around to pet her, and she
seemed to sense their need for comfort. The rescue workers even gave her a tiny badge that read: “Survivor
Cat.”
Later that evening, the group sat together around a heater, eating soup and sharing their stories. Even though
they had lost many things that day, they were grateful to be alive—and grateful to the brave pilot and rescue
team who had flown through danger to save them.
They knew the road ahead would be tough, but at that moment, surrounded by kindness, hope, and the soft
purring of Pigeon, they felt strong enough to face whatever came next
