IPAS

IPAS stands for Integrated Pay Roll and Accounting System. It was a
system used by Indian Railways to collect, process, store, and account for
financial and personnel information across all Zonal Railways (ZR).
 What was IPAS used for?
 To standardize the collection, processing, storage, and accounting of
financial and personnel information across all ZRs
 To ensure uniformity in the accounting of financial and personnel
information across all ZRs

 What is IPAS now known as?


 IPAS is now known as Accounting Information Management System
(AIMS)

HRMS
HRMS stands for Human Resource Management System. It is a web-
based application that Indian Railways uses to manage employee
information. HRMS includes a variety of modules that help with employee
transactions, such as leave management, performance appraisals, and
salary calculations.
 Employee self-service
Employees can use this module to access their information, apply for
leave, and request changes to their data
 Provident fund
Employees can use this module to check their PF balance and apply for
advances
 Settlement
This module helps with the process of finalizing the settlement claims of
retiring employees
 Electronic service record
This module stores employee service records in digital format
 Annual performance appraisal report
This module helps with the process of writing annual performance
appraisals
 Electronic pass
This module helps with the process of generating electronic passes for
employees
 Office order module
This module helps with the process of issuing office orders and updating
employee data
You can register for HRMS by going to the HRMS portal and clicking the
New Registration button.
This application will be a single-window communication system between
Railway employees and Administration. Employees of Indian Railways can
now see data related to their service and communicate with the
administration for any changes if required.
This information was not readily available to the employee before
implementation of HRMS. It brings transparency to the administration. It is
an important milestone in computerization of HR-related functions in Indian
Railways.
This HRMS Application allows the employee to view their historical data
since their date of joining in Railways including details like-

 Bio-data,
 Service Record
 Increments,
 Promotions,
 Awards,
 Transfers,
 Postings,
 Leave,
 Pass, PTO
 Training, and
 composition of Family
 Nominations for retirement benefits.
Application of Information Technology in Railways
Information technology (IT) is used in railways to improve services and
manage operations. Some of the applications of IT in railways include:
 Passenger services: IT is used to provide passenger reservation systems,
train enquiry systems, and internet booking.
 Train tracking: IT is used to track trains in real time using GPS and radio
frequency identification.
 Train operations: IT is used to manage train traffic control, coaches, and
crew.
 Freight transportation: IT is used to manage freight transportation data.
 Passenger grievance redressal: IT is used to manage passenger
grievances.
 Energy management: IT is used to manage energy consumption.
 Financial management: IT is used to manage finances.
 Employee health management: IT is used to manage employee health.
 Parcel management: IT is used to manage parcels.
 Overhead electrification system management:
IT is used to manage the overhead electrification system.

 Computers and Information Technology are widely used in the railway


system and railway industry.
 IT plays a vital role in railways. It made it more efficient and simple.

 The online reservation system allows the users to make reservations at the
comfort of their homes.

 The online reservation system also integrates other related services like
irctc-pnr status check, live train status, availability of tickets, train
schedules, etc.

 A route-based reservation system that facilitates the issue of journey-cum-


reservation tickets, which can be issued from any station to any station.

 Passenger journey to multiple laps of reservation can be handled from


a single terminal window, and also round the clock service.

 Provides automatic database recovery against all kinds of hardware


and software failures.

 Indian railway uses Information Technology for many purposes.
