Scenes For College Play (Light of Hope)
Scenes For College Play (Light of Hope)
Action: She reads her brother’s final letter, her expression shifting from shock to unbearable sorrow. As
she reads, projections of his dark, haunting artwork slowly appear on the backdrop, symbolizing the pain
he endured.
Parents in Mourning: On one side of the stage, her parents are visible, silently grieving by her brother’s
body, emphasizing the heavy impact of his death.
Protagonist’s Emotions: Overcome with guilt and regret, she murmurs, “I should have been there for you.
I should have known.” She sobs, consumed by the weight of not being able to save him.
Little Sister’s Entrance: Suddenly, her little sister enters and, without a word, gently hugs her from behind.
This soft, innocent embrace stops her crying, and she turns to comfort her sister instead, feeling a sense of
responsibility.
Curtains Close: The stage fades to darkness as the protagonist holds her sister tightly.
Stage Setup: The stage is dimly lit, with a soft, nostalgic glow. The protagonist is sitting center
stage, next to a box filled with her brother’s belongings. The backdrop is a neutral color, but as the
scene progresses, projected images or soft lighting effects show moments of her and her brother’s
childhood—playing, sharing secrets, and laughing together. A melancholic tune plays softly in the
background, setting the tone.
Protagonist (holding a toy sword): (Softly, with a faint smile) You always wanted to be the
knight. And I... I was your dragon. (Chuckles softly, then pauses, her expression turning pensive)
You never let the dragon win.
Her brother (played by another actor or as a shadowy figure) appears, laughing and playing with
her. They share a moment of joy, perhaps reminiscing about a childhood game or a shared dream.
Backdrop Changes: Images of their playful childhood fade, replaced by darker tones—a lone
figure by a window, sketches of storms and shadows. The music grows heavier, reflecting her
sorrow.
Moment of Nostalgia and Loss: She picks up a picture, staring at it, but anger begins to build.
With a sudden outburst, she throws the photos and shirt across the stage, her grief boiling over into
rage. She screams, “Why did you leave me? Why didn’t I help you?”
Despair and Inner Voices: She collapses on the floor, sobbing. Suddenly, a harsh, accusing voice
begins to echo—a manifestation of her inner guilt. The voice whispers, “You couldn’t even save
your own brother. You failed him.”
Conflicting Voices: Another softer voice counters, urging her to stay strong for her parents. “They
can’t lose you too,” it says. The two voices overlap, growing louder and more intense, until they
become a chaotic mix of self-blame and pleading.
Breakdown: Unable to bear it, she covers her ears, rocking back and forth, crying out to silence
the voices. The lights dim, the voices fade to silence, and the curtains close once more.
Scene 4: The Mirror
Stage Setup: The stage opens in darkness. She sits on the floor, broken and crying. Suddenly, a
soft light appears, illuminating a pathway to a mirror at center stage.
Following the Light: Drawn to the light, she slowly stands, following it to the mirror. As she looks
at her reflection, she sees her tear-streaked face, a portrait of her shattered self. Her gaze is fixed,
as though confronting the depths of her own pain.
The Mirror Shatters: Without warning, the mirror cracks and breaks into pieces, representing the
crumbling of her despair. Tense music builds, capturing her panic as she frantically tries to
reassemble the broken shards, whispering, “I can fix this, I can be whole again.”
The Light of Hope: As she struggles, a soft, warm light begins to glow around her. Her little sister
appears again, entering the light’s glow, and gently hugs her from behind. She stops, letting go of
the mirror shards, and turns to her sister.
Acceptance and Comfort: She wipes her tears, embracing her sister tightly. With a soft kiss on
her sister’s forehead, she whispers, “Thank you.” The two remain in an embrace, comforting each
other in a powerful display of family and resilience.
Ending: A gentle, calming sound fills the air, symbolizing peace and healing. The warm light
envelops them as they hold each other, and the stage fades to black.
