SPEAKING PART 2

PAUTAS PARA LA DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA FOTO


 ESSENTIAL:

- In this picture I can see … / This picture shows


- Who?
- Doing what?
- Where?
- When?

 GENERAL:

-General description of the photo


-Speculate what they are doing and who they are
-Time and season
- What we can see in the background of the picture

 Use the same structure


 Basic verbal tenses: Present Simple (This picture shows…) and
Present Continuous ( Describe the situation)

 USEFUL VERBS:

- There is / There are:


There´s a lot of food on the table

- Is / Are holding:
The man on the left is holding a present

- Is / Are standing:
The woman is standing on the right

- Is / Are sitting:
Three of them are sitting around a table

- Is / Are lying:
There´s a woman lying on a sofa

 Use some adjectives for describing the picture before the noun:
A beautiful sunny day

 Avoid long breaks:


Let me think / see

 USEFUL EXPRESSIONS FOR SPEACULATING:

- Look / Seem + Adj:


They look quite happy
- Look / Seem like + noun:
They seem like a family

- Seem to be doing:
They seem to be celebrating a birthday or anniversary

- Maybe / Probably: (At the beginning of the sentence)


Maybe / Probably it´s the grandfather´s birthday

- Possibility (Could / May / Might be):


The man in the middle might be the grandfather

- When you are sure about something (Must be):


It must be someone´s birthday or anniversary

 Don´t use I think because it is very common instead of this


expression you could say I believe.

 Always explain your speculations (Advices and useful


expressions):
They seem to be celebrating a birthday or anniversary. I say so
because these two people are holding a present and some flowers.

 Time and season:


If it is not very important, we talk about that at the end.

 STRUCTURE OF THE PICTURE ONLY IF IT IS NECESSARY:

IN THE TOP LEFT CORNER AT THE TOP IN THE TOP RIGHT CORNER

IN THE BACKGROUND

IN THE MIDDLE / CENTRE

IN THE FOREGROUND

 IMPORTANT PREPOSITIONS OF PLACE:

- On / In / Under
- Next to / Behind / In front of / Opposite
- Over / Above / Below
(For locating the most important people or objects of the picture)

 TWO USEFUL EXPRESSIONS:

- A group of people
- Sitting around the table

 Finally describe the people´s clothes if in the picture we have one or


two people, in this case it would be relevant.
