40kW. The stator losses are 1 kW and friction and windage losses total 2kW. Find the
efficiency of the motor.

sum of mechanical and iron losses and Rotor Cu loss equal to 1/3 of stator Cu loss
.Assuming mechanical loss equal to iron loss, Calculate the slip.

maximum torque. The slip at which maximum torque of 520 N-m occurs is 0.2. For
mechanical loss of 600W, find the speed at which motor would run when delivering rated
shaft power.

Measured between each pair of slip ring.This motor delivers a fan which requires 100kW
at a full load slip of 0.03 the torque demand of the fan varies as square of speed. What
resistance should be inserted in series with each slip ring so that fan will run at 210rpm?
Assume torque slip characteristics as a straight line from no load to full load speed of the
motor.

standstill reactance per phase. What external resistance is required in the rotor circuit in
order to get half of the maximum torque at starting?
9. For a 3-phase induction motor, what fraction/multiple of supply voltage is required for a

current initially and motor develops 1.5 times full-load torque at starting time assuming

Friction, windage and core losses are to be neglected. The machine has the following
impedance Data: r1= 1.2 ohms; x1=x2=1.4 ohms and Xm = 38.6 ohms.
Determine the maximum torque at rated voltage and frequency and the slip at which it
occurs. Also calculate the starting torque.

1490rpm. With the applied voltage magnitude remaining at the rated value, what should
be its frequency if the motor has to develop the same torque at 1600rpm? Neglect stator

running without load consumes 3KW. When prevented from rotating it draws rated
current at 30% rated supply and takes a power input of 4KW . Assuming that under rated
load conditions, the stator and rotor copper losses are equal and that the mechanical
losses are 30% of the no-load losses, determine (a) slip at rated load and (b) starting
torque of the motor with rated applied voltage.
30. A three-phase, 460 V, 60 Hz induction machine produces 100 hp at the shaft at 1746 rpm.
Determine the efficiency of the motor if rotational losses are 3500 W and stator copper
losses are 3000 W.
