Derryl Joshua Aleyhandro - Amanda's Homework - 23.04.2025

The document provides an overview of smelters, particularly in Indonesia's Morowali Industrial Park, detailing their role in processing nickel ore into products like Nickel Pig Iron and Ferronickel. It explains various mining and transportation terminologies, including hauling, barging, and the distinction between Exportable Transit Ore and Exportable Final Ore. Additionally, it outlines the equipment used at TMS Block 1 and Block 2, maintenance practices for hauling roads, and the 3S motto at PT TID, which emphasizes safety and operational standards.

What is a smelter?

A smelter is a facility where nickel ore gets processed using high heat to extract pure metal. Usually,
it produces Nickel Pig Iron (NPI) or Ferronickel, which are used for stainless steel or batteries.

Smelters in Indonesia, especially in Morowali:

PT Indonesia Tsingshan Stainless Steel (ITSS)

PT Sulawesi Mining Investment (SMI)

PT Indonesia Guang Ching Nickel and Stainless Steel Industry (GCNS)

PT Indonesia Tsingshan Nickel Industry (ITNI)

All of these are located in IMIP (Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park), which is a major nickel
processing hub.

Explain the distance from the hauling road to dumping:

This is the distance between the loading point (where ore or OB is picked up) and the dumping point.
The longer the distance, the higher the fuel usage, travel time, and wear on the equipment. That’s
why it needs to be calculated properly during mine planning.

Terminology:

Hauling

Transporting ore or overburden using dump trucks from the mine to a dump area or stockpile.

Barging

Moving ore from a stockpile or jetty to a barge for delivery to the smelter.
Overburden (OB)

Soil or rock that lies above the nickel ore. It needs to be removed first before mining the actual ore.

Land Clearing

Preparing the land before mining starts, like cutting trees, removing plants, and stripping topsoil.

Maintenance Hauling Road (MHR)

Keeping the hauling roads in good condition so trucks can move safely and efficiently. Usually
involves grading, watering, and compacting the road surface.

Road Construction

Building new roads from scratch — clearing the land, refill material, watering, leveling, and
compacting it.

ETO (Exportable Transit Ore)

Exportable Transit Ore refers to nickel ore that is in temporary storage or transit, pending final
quality verification. Although it meets preliminary export standards, it has not yet passed the full
confirmation process, which typically includes laboratory testing, moisture analysis, and
documentation checks.

EFO (Exportable Final Ore)

Exportable Final Ore is material that has completed all necessary quality assessments and has been
officially cleared for export. This ore meets the required specifications for nickel content, moisture
level, and other compliance standards, and is ready for loading onto barges or vessels.

What units are used at the TMS Block 1 and Block 2 sites, and why:

TMS Block 1 uses 45 DT. (21 units per 2024)

9 exca, 1 grader, 1 compactor, 1 loader.

TMS Block 2 uses 22 DT per 2024, by that logic, with no information, Block 2 might need more dozers
and graders if it’s doing more land clearing or OB work in 2025.

How many ETOs and EFOs at the KFM site?

ETO:1
EFO:3

Heavy equipment used for Maintenance Hauling Road (MHR) and what they do:

Grader – smooths and levels the road.

Compactor/Roller – compacts the road surface so it’s solid and durable.

Dozer – pushes material and shapes the road.

Water Truck – sprays water to reduce dust and help compact the road.

Dump Truck – delivers base rock or gravel for repairs.

What is the 3S motto at PT TID?

3S stands for Safety, Standard Operation, Smart Software.
