Please use this link to set up and access a UWL official LinkedIn account - DO NOT
use your personal LinkedIn account (if you already have one) as LinkedIn
Learning courses are behind a paywall and you might not get your certificates and
therefore you might not pass.
Also DO NOT link your personal account to your UWL one as some students have
found this also caused problems when downloading their certificates.
This component of the assessment portfolio is based on a learning ‘badge’. A learning
badge is a certificate that a person will receive when an institution validates the
accomplishment of a learning activity such as workshop, conferences, social work or
any educational strategy. The badges to be learned and earned are in alignment with
the module competency parameters.
The four courses can be revised as required periodically. You should select 4 from
the following:
Creating a presentation
Writing in Plain Language
Elements of a research question
Being an Effective Team Member
Time Management Fundamentals
Critical Thinking for More Effective Communication
5
Weighting: 20% - 5% for each badge provided as evidence of completion
Element 2: Presentation
You are required to design a ten minute presentation in a PowerPoint format firstly on
what you feel you have learnt from this and the other pre-sessional modules. Delivery
might require about 2.5 minutes per slide for instance, but which really depends upon
how much you will wish to say with each slide.
As part of this exercise you must produce a minimum one-minute video
presentation about yourself and what interested you to enrol in your Masters degree
study.
Example:
You are required to upload your video presentation to YouTube, setting up you own
channel and selecting “Unlisted” when uploading the video. Then include the
YouTube link in the presentation slide deck. In this way the presentations slide is not
made large by having the video embedded in it.
Useful information:

You are reminded that the University applies penalties to students who commit an
academic offence, in which case the Academic Offences Regulations will be used to
deal with any cases of academic misconduct including examination offences,
plagiarism and other means of cheating to obtain an advantage.

advice and guidance to ensure you are fully informed of the academic regulations set
out by the University as well as advocate for student views.
You are expected to behave in line with UWL expectations, irrespective of whether
your interactions with staff and other students are in person or online. As you will be
engaging with others online and a range of online materials, it is important to consider
how to stay safe online and ensure your communications are secure and appropriate.
If you have any questions about how to manage your online UWL activities, please
contact your module leader.
If you have an issue about the module, you should speak to your Module Leader or
Course Leader informally in the first instance. Your Course Representative can also
raise your concerns at Course Committees, which take place each semester. If you
are unable to resolve it informally, you should refer to the Complaints Procedure
which is outlined in the student handbook and consult the Students’ Union about it.
The University aims to ensure that issues are resolved informally as quickly as
possible to have minimum impact on your studies.
