FORMAL LETTER ASSIGNMENT

1.You are Akshaya/ Akshita. There are open manholes on the road in front of your colony. Due
to this, every alternate day an accident is reported. During the rainy season, these manholes
overflow and the stench becomes unbearable. Write a letter to the editor of the local newspaper
in about 100-120 words expressing your concern regarding the same. Use the slogan
expressing the agony the residents face every day.

Closed minds may not be favourable…

But closed manholes surely are extremely favourable!
Don't deepen the problem by making the residents fathom the squalid gutters!

2.There is an increasing dependence of students on coaching institutes and tuition centers.

Write a letter to the Editor of ‘The Hindu’, in about 120 words, giving reasons for this
over-dependence. Also, suggest a few measures that can be taken to check this trend taking
hints from the cues given below. You are Arun/Aruna, F-114, Mall Road, Agra.

● Mushrooming of coaching institutes

● Lured students through clever advertisements and marketing strategies
● Promise the moon to the students - fall an easy prey
● Tempt students by offering scholarships to the tune of 50% for deserving candidates
● Coaching classes have become a fad
● Students do not pay much attention to school studies
● Create indiscipline, tendency to bunk school / classes increases

3.During one of your visits to a bank in your city, you noticed that the bank is not easily
accessible to people with disabilities The absence of ramps makes it highly difficult for People in
wheelchairs
to avail the services of the bank. The sight of people barging into reserved queues for disabled
and dependent people made you furious. But you decided not to react and create a scene,
instead it's better to bring awareness among people through the right channel.
Write a letter in 100-120 words to your District Magistrate highlighting the issue and requesting
him/her to take necessary action. You are Sneha/Shahid from Madhuban Apartments, Kanpur.

4. Write a letter to the SHO of your colony (100-120 words) regarding some anti-social
elements who lurk around the vicinity of the school, especially when the school closes down.
They resort to eve-teasing, they bully the boys and provoke them to react just to pick up a fight.
This becomes a security hazard for the students and staff of the school. Request him to post
some
policemen who could do patrolling so that these miscreants could be checked. Also, make a
request for stringent punishment to those who indulge in these activities.
