- You can determine the software status of the IC-1 in the

system mask (201.1) in the Quick menu (E12).

15.1 Electronic Crane Information System (16)

The electronic crane information system IC-1 (Intelligent

Control System) (16) combines several devices, which provide
the crane operator with the main information for operating the
crane within the parameters prescribed by the manufacturer:

- overload safety protection device (load limit device

LLD).

- Telescoping information system (see section 18).

- Display of several crane configurations such as e.g. support

pressure, tilt, crane configuration, load capacities, etc.

- Warning (optical and acoustic) when inadmissible states

occur.

The crane information system used (incl. load limit device) is an

operating help. It supplies the crane operator with important
information concerning crane data such as e.g. length and
angle of the boom, sheave head height, nominal load capacity,
the load total hanging from the boom, etc. and warns when an
overload state is being approached or when the hook block is
nearing the boom head.

This safety device is no substitute for judgement and

experience of the crane operator or application of
recognised safe working procedures for crane operation.
The crane operator is not relieved of his responsibility for
safe crane operation.

If, when raising a load or lowering the main boom with load the
permissible load moment / the permissible load is exceeded,
the load moment increasing movements as well as „raise luffing
gear“ and „raise load on hook“ are switched off. „Lower load on
hook“ is permitted.

Load moment deactivation should only be activated in

exceptional cases. It may never be used for normal
operation.

Before raising a load its weight must be known. The safety

device may not be used to calculate the weight.

The load limit device must be set by the crane operator for
the individual crane configuration. This means that the
crane operator must change the load limit device as well
when the crane configuration is changed. The load limit
device functions automatically only when each setting has
been adjusted correctly.

Safety Equipment 15

The load may only be taken up with the hoist in hook

operation:
for main boom operation this is generally hoist 1, for
operation with the main boom extension ONLY hoist 1.

If the load is still in contact with the ground and raising of

the hoist has been switched off, the load is too heavy. The
movement “raise main boom” may not be released!

“Raise main boom” may never be used to raise the load!

It is absolutely essential for crane operating safety that the

load limit device operate in its original state. If the central
unit of the load limit device is damaged, the “general
operating permit” is cancelled.

Risk of crushing!

Despite using automatic safety devices, swinging of the

load cannot always be avoided during shut-off! It can only
be avoided by adjusting the acceleration / speed of all
crane movements! Watch also the continuous load limit
display with warning at 99% of the permissible load limit
before shut-off.

The danger that the load limit device is influenced by high-

frequency radiation is minimised by the level of technology
(shields). However, it cannot be totally excluded,
particularly under extreme conditions such as e.g.
proximity to very powerful transmitters.

15.1.1 System Start

(Z 60 017)

When switching on the ignition, the IC-1 system is automatically

started. Depending on the temperature of the computer
(monitor) the operating mode selection mask appears after a
corresponding warm-up time with the last crane configuration
that was set (Z 60 174).
The display is exited with the “save” command.

Normally, the warming-up time of the computer lasts less than

one minute. When there are extreme outside temperatures (< -
8o C), the warming-up time can last several minutes. As soon as
the red LED (temp, 16f) goes out and the green LED
(Power,16h) lights up, the computer is ready for operation.

Any fault displays that appear briefly during the self-test are for
testing the functional safety of the system and are not
significant.

If there is a power failure or after the ignition is switched off, the

IC-1 system switches off after 15 mins (Z 60 018 appears). If
the power supply is reinstated in that time period the IC-1
system is immediately ready for operation again.

15.1.3 Operation of the IC-1

With this system, all functions are operated by “touching” the

displayed switch or surfaces on the screen, i.e. the safety
equipment of the crane is set entirely using the screen surface.

When an active switch is touched, a selection window is opened

to set the parameters or the display changes into another
selection window. The values presented for selection are
always dependent on the previously selected settings. This
means if, for example, crane operation without main boom
extension is selected, then no values for parameter settings with
main boom extension will be offered. These switches will only
appear “grey”. All parameters that can be set appear on a
switch with a black frame.

The following applies:

diskette: selected setting is saved and the

display is changed.

Door: the display is exited without saving the changed

settings.

”Red” entries: the displayed value must be changed or

at least confirmed, otherwise the settings for
operation of the crane cannot be saved.

203.4 (Quick menu E24) Operating range limits

(Z 60 147)

To ensure that the crane and/or boom stay clear of any

hazardous areas, for example near exposed overhead cables,
the crane operator can define the following limits:

- Slewing angle limit

- Radius and height limit
- Operating range limit by virtual wall

The setting of operating range limits does not relieve the

crane operator of his responsibility for safe crane operation.
He must ensure that he fully understands and follows the
indicated instructions and applications.

Make sure you deactivate any activated limits as soon as

operation within a limited operating range is finished.
Otherwise for subsequent operation of the crane, without
any limits, an unintentional and abrupt shut down and
corresponding swinging out of the hook block / load can
result.

Setting and saving wall point B.

Switching over of the operating range to the wall.

When the inverted display is switched on the

background is displayed in green.

When setting and saving a wall a minimum distance of 8 m

between the wall points must be adhered to.
If the distance is too small, the wall area will be displayed in red.

Especially make sure that the selected limit angle (=

shutdown point) actually ensures sufficient distance to the
danger area in extreme situations (e.g. the hook block
swinging out after the crane motion has been switched off).
All crane movements must always be carried out with adapted
speed.

15.1.5 Setting the operating mode with the operating mode

selection mask

To ensure that the load limit device functions properly, it must

be set:

- before work is commenced (as soon as the configuration is

reached) after switching on the ignition / engine by the crane
operator in accordance with the crane configuration

- after the crane configuration is changed in accordance with

the new operating mode by the crane operator.

Only when the load limit device has been set by the crane
operator in accordance with the current operating mode /
crane configuration, can it automatically work.

Risk of tipping! Risk of breakage!

The load capacities specified in the tables correspond to
100% of the permitted maximum load of the corresponding
crane configuration. If these limit values are exceeded
there is risk of the crane tipping and / or risk of the crane
components or supplementary equipment breaking.

(Z 60 176)
The operating mode selection mask (202.2) can be selected in
the main menu and on the quick menu of the crane operating
mask. Further info on the operating mode selection mask is
available in this section under the heading: “Main menu” 202.2
(Quick menu E21) operating mode selection mask.

15.1.6 Load Monitoring Assembly

(Z 60 093)

With the help of the computer of the load limit device it is

possible to check the weight if the raised load (net load).

The loadcontrol device may not be used to determine the

weight, but serves to check previously calculated weights
of loads for better estimating the load stroke and avoiding
any hazardous situations.

Before raising the load the maximum load corresponding to the

operating condition must be determined. It is displayed in
relation to the selected operating mode on the display under the
MAX (B) setting.

Load control

1. With a freehanging hook block (without load, with

load-handling device) press button of the net display (B).
The attachment equipment is tared and set to 0.0t
net load.

2. Raise the load with the hoist. The net display now shows the
net load (actual load on the hook without load-handling
device).

The gross load contains - excluding the load weight - the weight
proportion of the main boom extension in the transport position,
the weight of the hook block, the hoist rope and all load-
handling equipment. The netload is the actual load on the hook
block without the load-handling equipment. Display errors are
possible as a result of external factors, such as wind, which acts
on the crane.

The load may only be raised using the hoist. It is forbidden

to raise the load by extending the telescopes or luffing
cylinders.

15.1.7 Bridging the load limit device

(Z 60 097)

If a prohibited overload condition has occurred, the load

moment increasing movements are shut down by the load limit
device. Only load on the hook is still permitted (except for
when the lower limit switch has also shut down. For
procedures in this respect, see section 15.2).

15.1.7.1 Bridging the shut-down of the movement “raise

luffing gear”

To return a suspended load from the overload range to the

permitted operating range, the main boom can be luffed up.
The release to “raise luffing gear” is carried out via the key
button (G171). To this end the key must be turned in the
clockwise direction and held in this position.

In the bridged condition the indicator light (G170) lights up.

This movement may only be enabled when it does not

result in a hazardous situation.

The load is too heavy if it still has contact with the ground
and “raise hoist” has been switched off. The movement
“raise luffing gear” must not then be enabled!

”Raise luffing gear” must not, under any circumstances,

be used to raise the load!

Use of this key-operated pushbutton (G171) can move the

load to the shut-off range without the entire load limit device
(with all monitoring elements) being switched off.

15.1.7.2 Bridging the shut-off of all movements

(Z 60 097)

Using the key-operated pushbutton (G169) the load limit

device can be bridged. All movements are possible again,
except for if hoist limit switch or lower limit switch have also
been triggered (bridging “hoist limit switch” see section 15.2).

To this end the key must be turned clockwise and held in this
position.

In the bridged condition the indicator light (G168) lights up.

The load limit device may only be bridged in exceptional

cases, for example in case of repairs, fitting a rope or
similar. This may only be carried out by authorised
persons, who are conversant with operation of the
crane! The bridging of the load limit device must not,
under any circumstances, lead to an increase in the load
moment. Raising of the load with a bridged load limit
device is prohibited!

The load may only be raised using the hoist.

15.2 Limit Switches

15.2.1 Bridging the hoist limit switch

(Z 60 097)

When the red hoist limit symbol (HES) lights up, a hoist limit
switch has been tripped. The alarm transmitter sounds.Using
the key-operated pushbutton (G173) the hoist limit switches
“hoist 1 or 2 - raise” are bridged. With the bridged limit switch,
the indicator light (G172) must light up.

The limit switches may only be bridged in exceptional

circumstances, e.g. when configuring the crane (fitting or
changing equipment parts, fitting ropes etc.).

15.2.2 Lower Limit Switch

When the red lower limit symbol (SES) lights up the relevant
lower limit switch is triggered.

The lower limit switches may be bridged to change or fit

ropes.

Crane operation with bridged limit switches is forbidden.

RISK OF ACCIDENTS!

The proximity switch on the slip ring of the hoist drum

must be bridged in order to bridge the lower limit switch.
