Information technology

What is technology?

Technology means any invention like tools, machines, materials, techniques that is

used to make work and life easier.

Technology can also be said to occur when ever people use their knowledge to create

or solve existing problem.

What is information technology?

Information technology is the use of any computer, computer related device, infrastructure and
processes to create, process, store, secure and exchange data and information.

It involves the use of computer and any type of telecommunication that stores,

retrieves, transmit, manipulate data and send information.

Information technology involves the combination of hardware and software.

Hardware are the physical parts of a computer.

Software are the programs inside the computer.

Evaluation:

WEEK 2
TOPIC: - Functions of the items on the windows desktop

CONTENT

Functions of the items on the windows desktop

The windows desktop is the screen that is visible after the booting process
of a computer is complete.
In other words windows desktop is the first screen that appear when we put
on the computer.
Items on the Windows desktop and their functions
1. My Computer (This PC) : This icon allows the user access to drives,
printer and cont rol panel.
2. Recycle bin : This icon allows the user to check for deleted files or folder
To restore item from the recycle bin
a. Double click on the recycle bin to open
b. Select item in the recycle bin
c. Right click on the item
d. Click restore
3. My document : This icon is also available on the start menu, it is
where text file and spreadsheets are located
4. Control panels : This where we control all functions of the computer
Functions of the control panel include
a. Make changes to keyboard and mouse function
b. Set and change password or user
c. Install and remove sound, hardware or software
5. Start button and menu : This icon is used for launching software or programs
that you want to work with.
Evaluation:

1. Mention 5 items on the windows desktop


2. Write the use of four mentioned above
3. Write the steps to restore items in a recycle bin

WEEK 3
TOPIC: - Installing and Uninstalling of a program

CONTENT
There are several means of installing a program
1. From the Internet
2. From a CD or DVD ROM
3. From a flash drive
Installing a program from the internet

1. Open microsoft store


2. Search for the program or software you want to install
3. Click ”Get it” or install.
4. Wait for the program to download and install .

Installing a program from CD or DVD ROM

1. Insert the CD or DVD containing the software or program into the CD/DVD drive
2. Wait for the installation wizard to start automatically
(If the installation wizard does not start automatically)
3. Open my computer or this pc
4. Right click on the CD/DVD drive
5. Then click run
6. Follow the instructions on the screen.

Installing a program from a flash drive or external harddrive

1. Insert the flash drive into a USB port


2. Open file explorer and locate the flash drive
3. Open the flash drive
4. Double click or right click on the program you want to install
5. Follow the instructions on the screen

Uninstalling a program or software from a computer

1. Click on start button


2. Click control panel
3. Click programs
4. Click uninstall or remove a program
5. Now select the programor software
6. Click the uninstall button
7. And wait for the uninstallation to complete

Evaluation:

1. Write the steps to install a program from the internet


2. Write the steps to install a program from a cd
3. Write the steps to install a program from a flasj drive

WEEK 4
TOPIC: - Fornatting in ms word(page layout, header footer, bullets and numbering)

CONTENT
Microsoft word (MS word) is a word processing program. A word processor is uesd to create, and print
text documents

Formating refers to the appearance or presentation of a document. Another word for formatting is layout

Page orientation
This is the positioning of a document, there are two types of orientation, land scape and Portrait

How to change orientation

1. Click layout fromthe menu bar


2. Click orientation
3. Click eighter Land scape or portrait

Header and footer are the parts of a document that contains special information like page number, title,
and logo.

Header are the information at the top of the page while footer are the information at the button

Adding header and footer to a document

1. Click insert from the menu bar


2. Click header button or footer button
3. Click the style of header or footer that you want
4. Type your information
5. Click close header and footer

Bulllets and numbering : these are Microsoft features that are used to organize a list

Applying bullet or number to a list

1. Select the typed text


2. Click home menu (if you are not in home )
3. Click bullets or numbering
4. Select the bullets or numbering style
5. Done

Evaluation:

1. What are bullets and numbering?


2. What are header and footer?
3. What is page orientation?
4. Mention two types of orientation
