OPERATION
The PT20 CPU is designed for use with the AX900 Platform Scale. The system can
operate 2 to 12 platforms (1 to 6 pairs) in either a wired or wireless mode.

AX900 PLATFORM SCALE ASSEMBLY

Assembly of the AX900 platform scales is required for scales that are not shipped pre-
assembled. If the scale system is assembled, skip the Assembly Procedure section and
proceed to the Scale Set-Up section.
The AS900 Scale System components include the following items.
 AX900-LAW Scale Platforms
 AX900 Ramps
 AX900 Standard Scale-to-Scale and Scale-to-Ramp Connecting Links
 .625-11 x 1.5 in. Long Plated Flat Socket Head Bolts (For Links)
 1 each: Tube of Blue Loctite (For Bolts)

OPERATION
AX900 Assembly Procedure
1. Unpack the AX900 scale system components from the wooden crates.
2. Refer to Installation diagram on following page.
3. Position the AX900 Platforms end to end with summing box connections on the
same side facing towards the middle of the lane of travel.
3.1 Align scale number 1 (Left Front) and scale number 3 (Left Rear) end to end on
the left side of traffic flow direction.
3.2 Next, align scale number 2 (Right Front) and scale number 4 (Right Rear) end to
end on the opposite side of traffic flow.
3.2 When the complete system is laid out, scale number 1 should be directly across
from scale number 2 and scale number 3 should be directly across from scale
number 4.
4. Fasten (2) standard connecting links on each side of the center AX900 platforms
using 5/8"-11 flat socket head bolts. Apply blue Loctite to the bolt threads prior to
installation.
5. Position the four (4) AX900 Ramps at each end of the AX900-LAW scale platform
assembly layout.
6. Fasten (2) standard connecting links on each end of the scale system between the
scale platforms and the ramps using 5/8"-11 flat socket head bolts. Apply blue
Loctite to the threads of the bolts prior to installation.
7. Repeat process as required.
8. Connect the system cables from platform to platform. When completed, connect
cables to any channel (CH 1 - CH 6) on the PT20 CPU. Each platform contains its
own electronics with memory and will transmit identification data unique to that
platform. The weight from each platform will appear in a designated location on the
screen regardless of which connector the platform is plugged into.

OPERATION
SCALE SET-UP (WIRED WHEEL LOAD SCALES)
Position the scales in the required configuration. Connect the scales in pairs to the
PT20. Ensure that the pairs are connected as shown below. When six scales are used,
scale numbers 5 and 6 should be paired to make up the third axle.

WIRELESS SCALE SET-UP

Position the scales as shown in the Wired Set-up section. Each scale must be
numbered and paired to a set of weigh axles (Pair 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 and so on). The PT20
can manage up to 6 pairs of wireless scales (12 scales total).

OPERATION
WEIGHING
When set-up has been completed, the system is ready to start weighing. Press the
ON/OFF key to turn on the PT20 CPU. Press the ZERO key, and then press the ZERO
key a second time to zero all platforms, or enter a scale channel number to zero one
channel when prompted. The PT20 CPU will automatically zero the pads when power is
applied to the system. A weigh system may have the capability to be configured so each
pad will retain a zero condition even when power is removed.
When the pads have been zeroed, a load can be applied. As the load is applied, the
screen will display the corresponding weight of each platform (Refer to the Axle
Accumulation Example on the following page for instructions on accumulating weight
and printing individual axle weights and total weight for a vehicle).

DISPLAY (AXLE ACCUM MODE)

When accessing the Axle Accumulation display mode, the screen will display the
current weight of each axle, the current group weight and the total accumulated weight.
1. Each current axle weight shown will be labeled AXL 1, AXL 2, AXL 3, AXL 4, AXL 5
or AXL 6 depending on the system configuration. AXL X (X = channel number)
represents the total weight of the left platform and the right platform.
2. The total of AXL 1 - 6 (labeled GRP x) is the current group weight with "x"
representing the current group number that is displayed. The number will increase
by 1 each time the Next Group key is pressed.
3. The total accumulated weight (labeled TOT) is displayed on the last line of the
screen. The weight shown is the accumulating total vehicle weight. The accumulated
weight includes the current group weight and any previous group weights for the
vehicle.
4. The unit of measure (lb or kg) is displayed on the right side of the screen on the total
weight.

PAD CALIBRATION
INTRODUCTION
The calibration procedure set forth in following paragraphs will clear the
current calibration of a pad and replace it with a new calibration. To exit the
Calibration procedure, press the EXIT key. Contact Intercomp Service (762-
476-2531) for additional information.
1. To access the CALIBRATION Menu, some scales may require the scale calibration
menu be enabled. Refer to the scale user manual for information on accessing the
scale calibration menu.
2. All Intercomp pads are shipped from the factory in a calibrated condition.
3. When using dead weights to calibrate a pad, ensure that the correct latitude and
altitude is set. If the pad is calibrated using a force calibration press, the altitude
should be set to 0 feet and the latitude set to 45 degrees.
4. Calibration Accuracy: Optimum accuracy is achieved when calibration loads are
applied to the platform through a metal block separated from the platform by a thick
piece of hard rubber. This type of setup best simulates the load applied by a tire.
5. The PT20 employs a 1 - 10 point calibration feature that reduces the effects of non-
linearity in the pads.
5.1. Place up to (10) weights on the pad during calibration.
5.2. The first weight must be greater than zero, the second greater than the first, and
so on with the final weight less than or equal to the pad capacity.
5.3. If less than (10) calibration points are required, press the EXIT key (after the last
calibration point is entered) when prompted to enter the next calibration weight.
5.4. The calibration will be saved and the unit will exit the menu.

PRINTER OPERATION
SCOREBOARD
The output of the Wireless PT20 can be connected to a scoreboard to display
continuous, real-time information.
The signal is transmitted through the Serial I/O connector located on the front of the
PT20.
Serial I/O Pinout
SIGNAL PIN
TXD F
GND B

The transmitted signal has the following characteristics:

 Fixed 8 Data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit.
 Baud rate is configurable using the PRINTER BAUD RATE setting (menu item #1)
referenced in the USB/RS232 Settings Menu.
 The output swings from -9 VDC to +9 VDC.
The scoreboard output is an externally available signal designed to drive a numeric
overhead display such as the Intercomp LED Display or a computer RS232 input.

Continuous Print Mode Transmitted Data: xxxxxxx<cr><lf>

Transmitted data is displayed in either NET or GROSS weight, whichever is currently
shown on the PT20 CPU display. Data is transmitted at a rate of once per second.
However, data transmission may be delayed when motion is detected.
The "xxxxxxx" field will vary in size depending on the length of the number and may
contain a decimal point and/or a minus sign.

PRINTER OPERATION
CONTINUOUS SERIAL OUTPUT
The PT20 can be set to output continuous data using the USB and/or RS232
connections (refer to the USB/RS232 section of the MENU options).
The following example shows the format for the continuous output. The line or lines will
be output at a rate approximately once per second. The total weight currently on the
scales is 14000 lb and the accumulated total weight is 25000 lbs.
