Laundering of woolens and cleaning of plastic basins/buckets

a. Laundering woolens
-woolens are clothes or garments made from wool that can be obtained from animals like rabbit,
sheep and goat.
Precautions to take when laundering woolens
1. Check the care label for specific instructions
2. Use lukewarm water when washing
3. Use a mild detergent to wash
4. Wash separately from other fabrics to avoid damage
5. Avoid rubbing and wringing the wool
6. Air dry flat to avoid shrinking and reshaping
7. Avoid using hot water

Material/ Equipment used when laundering woolens

a. Mild detergent
b. Luke-warm water
c. Clean basin or bucket

Procedure for laundering woolens

1. Fill the basin with warm water


2. Add a detergent to the water following a recommended dosage or required measurements
3. Submerge the woolen into soapy water and gently agitate the garment to clean it.
4. Rinse thoroughly in clean luke-warm water until all the detergent residue is gone.
5. Gently squeeze out excess water, do not wring the garment
6. Dry flat on a clean surface away from direct sunlight
7. Allow the woolen to rest for about twenty four hours before wearing it again as this allows
fibres to recover and retain their shape

b. Cleaning of basins/buckets
-basins and buckts are made of plastics
Precautions to take when cleaning buckets and basins
1. Avoid harsh chemicals as they can damage them
2. Avoid using bleaches and strong detergents as this makes them weak and prone to brakages
as this destroys its appearance.
3. Avoid too much scrubbing with hard brushes as this destroys its appearance.
4. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight
5. Do not bung them as this may break them
Materials used for cleaning buckets/basins

a. Clean water
b. Soft sponge or cloth
c. Soft brush
d. Soap detergent
e. Disinfectant

Procedure for cleaning basins/buckets

1. Rinse to remove any visible dirt


2. Fill the basin or sink with clean warm water
3. Add detergent to the water
4. Scrub the basin/bucket with a soft brush or sponge paying attention to any areas with
a lot of dirt
5. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove soap and dirt
6. Disinfect after washing and rinsing
7. Dry in a shade to avoid braking and discoloration.
