Math.assignment Unit 5 (1)

The document presents a math assignment for a statistical inference course, focusing on analyzing complaint data across four regions using JASP software. It includes descriptive statistics, hypotheses formulation, and ANOVA analysis results, indicating that Region 4 has the highest average complaints and Region 1 has the largest standard deviation. The analysis concludes that there is significant evidence to reject the null hypothesis, suggesting that the average number of complaints differs across the regions.

Math Assignment Unit 5

In your work, assume the 5% significance level.

Use the following data WickedWitch.csv to answer the below questions.

Take a screenshot of your output and based on that, answer the following questions.

a) Import the data into JASP and provide an explanation on the descriptive statistics for the variable
Complaint split across regions.
a) Explanation of Descriptive Statistics for Complaints Split Across Regions:
 Valid: The number of data points for which we have information. In this case,
each region has 5 valid data points.
 Missing: The number of data points where information is not available. Here,
there are no missing data points.
 Median: The middle value of the data when it's ordered.
 Mean: The average number of complaints.
 Std. Deviation: A measure of how spread out the data is from the mean. A
larger standard deviation indicates more variability.
 Minimum: The smallest number of complaints observed in the region.
 Maximum: The largest number of complaints observed in the region.

1. Which of the regions has the highest average number of complaints,

indicate the average?
o Region 4 has the highest average number of complaints. The average for
Region 4 is 4.200.
2. Which of the regions has the largest standard deviation of complaints,
indicate the standard deviation?
o Region 1 has the largest standard deviation of complaints. The standard
deviation for Region 1 is 1.225.
3. Based on the descriptive output from JASP, can we expect the average
number of complaints across the four regions to be different? Why?
o Yes, based on the descriptive output, we can expect the average number
of complaints to be different across the four regions. The means for the
regions vary (1.000, 1.400, 3.600, and 4.200), suggesting that the average
number of complaints is not the same across the regions.
b) Write a hypotheses for evaluating whether the average number of complaints caused
varies across the four regions.
Null Hypothesis (H0): The average number of complaints is the same across all four
regions.
 Alternative Hypothesis (Ha): The average number of complaints is not the
same across all four regions (at least one region is different).

c) Run the ANOVA analysis in JASP (with Complaints as the dependent variables
and Region as the Fixed Factors). Provide a capture of the output and answer the following
questions: c) Run the ANOVA analysis in JASP (with Complaints as the dependent
variables and Region as the Fixed Factors). Provide a capture of the output and answer the
following questions

1. What is the F-statistic and the p-value?

o The F-statistic is 10.486.
o The p-value is < .001 (less than 0.001).
2. What is the conclusion for the hypotheses of question (b)?
Since the p-value (< .001) is less than the typical significance level of 0.05, we reject the null
hypothesis. This means we have strong evidence to conclude that the average number of
complaints is not the same across all four regions. (Diez et al., 2019 ; Studocu, 2024)
