A. Scope of works:

Geo technical investigation to be carried out is to find the resistance value of the cone against the soil
that helps us to determine different mechanical properties of soil such as strength, bearing capacity, and
so on. The scope of work consists of two tests which are summarized as follows:
1. Cone Penetration Test (CPT) consisting of 46 points : 19 points for 150kV OHL and 17 points for 33kV
OHL. (See Attachment 1. CPT Location)
2. Standard Penetration Test (SPT)/boring test consisting of 10 points : 6 points for 150kV OHL and 4
points for 33kV OHL. (See Attachment 1. SPT Location)

B. Method Statement Cone Penetration Test (CPT) (regarding SNI 2827:2008)

1. Tools :
 Cone Penetrometer, a special tool that can penetrate into the ground (single cone or double
cone). For the Dutch Cone Penetrometer type Begemann is commonly used with a maximum
capacity of 250 kg/cm2.
 4 pieces of canal steel and anchors.
 2 manometers with each capacity:
 Light CPT : 0 to 50 kg/cm2 and
0 to 250 kg/cm2
 Heavy CPT: 0 to 59 kg/ cm2 and
0 to 600 kg/cm2
 2 pieces of wrench
 Inner rod
 Steel press pipe
 Crowbar / other replacement tool.
 Castor oil/SAE 10
 Roll meter and waterpass.
 Crank

2. Personal Protective Equipment :

 Safety Helmet
 Safety glasses
 Earplugs/Ear muffs
 Coveralls
 Hand gloves
 Leg Wrap Chaps
 Safety shoes
3. Sequence of operation :

3.1 Preparation:

a. Prepare a hole for inserting the cone for the first time, usually dug with a crowbar to a
depth of about 5 cm
b. Insert 4 pieces of anchor into the ground at the right position according to the location of
the loading frame;

4 of 10
METHOD STATEMENT GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATION
C-TD-00AE-CLC050-105855
c. Adjust the loading frame, so that the position of the frame is vertical;
d. Install manometers 0 MPa to 2 MPa and manometers 0 MPa to 5 MPa for testing soft soils,
or install manometers 0 MPa to 5 MPa and manometers 0 MPa to 25 MPa for testing hard
soils;
e. Check the hydraulic system by pressing the hydraulic piston using a piston lock, and if it is
insufficient, add oil and prevent air bubbles from forming in the system;
f. Place the load frame so that the hydraulic presses are directly above it;
g. Install the clamping beams on the anchors and tighten them by rotating the fixing bolts, so
that the load-bearing frames stand firmly and are firmly attached to the ground surface. If
it remains in motion during the test, add dead load on the clamp beams;
h. Connect the double cone with the inner rod and the head of the press pipe; in this position
the inner rod always protrudes about 8 cm above the nozzle head. If it is not long enough,
you can add a piece of steel with the same diameter as the inner rod.

3.2 Test Procedure :

3.2.1 Cone Penetration Testing

Perform a double cone penetration test using the following steps:
a. Fix the inner rod and pushpipe under hydraulic press in proper position;
b. Push/pull the adjuster to the ready-to-press position, so that the hydraulic presses
only press the pushpipe;
c. Turn the crank clockwise, so that the pressure gear and hydraulic pressure move
down and pressurize the outer pipe until it reaches a depth of 20 cm according to
the test interval;
d. At every 20 cm interval apply pressure to the inner rod by pulling the control lock,
so that the hydraulic press only presses the inner rod;
e. Rotate the crank clockwise and keep the cone penetration speed from 10 mm/s to
20 mm/s ± 5. While pressing the push rod, do not go down, because it will disrupt
the reading of the data.
3.2.2 Reading of test results
Take a reading of the results of the cone penetration test as follows:
a. Read the value of the cone resistance on the first 4 cm of inner rod pusher and
record it on the form (Table A) in column Cw ;
b. Read the sum of the value of the shear resistance and the value of the cone
resistance of the second rod presser approximately 4 cm deep and record them
on the form (Table. A) in column Tw.

3.2.3 Repeat the test steps

Repeat the above test steps until the cone resistance value reaches its maximum limit
(according to the capacity of the tool) or until a maximum depth of 20 m to 40 m is
reached or as needed. This applies to both light CPT and heavy CPT.
3.2.4 Test completion
a. Disconnect the press pipe, inner rod and double cone by pushing/pulling the
adjuster in the unplugged position and turning the crank counterclockwise.
b. Record any deviations during the test.

3.3 Calculation

a. Perform calculations of the cone resistance (qc), shear resistance (fs), shear ratio (Rf), and
total shear (Tf) of the soil and describe the test results
b. Description of the results of the cone penetration test.
 Draw a graph of the relationship between the variation of cone resistance (qc) and
depth (meters).
 For the sondir test with double cones, describe the relationship between the shear
resistance (fs) and depth and the total shear (Tf) and depth.
 If it is necessary to estimate the details of the soil from the data of the cone resistance
and shear resistance, draw a graph of the relationship between the shear ratio and the
depth.

 Combine the lower section and upper section each leg of tripod by using the bolt and
should be tighten.
 Jointing the upper edge of each tripod legs with bolts and lock with a torque wrench.
 Install one unit of chain block at the upper edge of tripod.
 After the upper edge of tripod connected each other, therefore erect the tripod including
attached chain block manually. Each of tripod leg shall be hold by one person crew
member. Then raise the tripod leg at the same time, by pushing the each of tripod legs
forward.
 After the tripod had stand up, install the bracing pipe support at the bottom and at the
upper level of tripod.
 Install drilling water supply (water pumps, hoses, and others) and ensure the watertank is
available.
 Set up and adjust the drilling machine by using tripod to the correct position of drilling
point
 After setting up drilling machine completed, then check the safety and equipment by Site

METHOD STATEMENT GEOTECHNICAL INVESTIGATION
C-TD-00AE-CLC050-105855
 Do the SPT test by stroking the hammer which makes the pipe handlebar inserting the soil
for 15 cm long. The first 15 cm movement of handlebar because of hammer stroke is
preliminary and not consider into the test calculation.
 The number of hammer strokes is noted as (“N”) from the implementation of the SPT
formula. The “N” value shall be counting for the next 15 cm (2nd time and 3rd time
handlebar entering the soil after preliminary of first 15 cm stroke).
 Remove the hammer and remove the pipe handlebar along with the SPT tube.
 Repeat the SPT test every 1.5 m testing interval.
 Insert the pipe handlebar along with the UDS tube to take soil samples
 Lift up the pipe handlebar along with the UDS tube
 Remove the UDS tube from the handlebar and store it in a safe place. Covering the sample
from direct sunlight and other foreign material
 Perform UDS/DS sampling every 1,5 m interval.
 Install the casing pipe in the borehole and continue to drill
 Repeat the same procedure until reached required depth.

3.6 Rig Moving

 Remove the tripod leg bracing.

 Pull 1 tripod pole and hold the remaining 2 tripod poles to lowering the tripod to the
ground,
 Remove the bolts attached to the tripod pole and move the tripod to the next drilling
point,
 Move the drilling machine and drill equipment to the next point,
 Repeat the same test sequences.

3.7 Groundwater Sampling

Groundwater samples will be taken from the borehole. Water samples were taken using a
bailer sampler as follows:

 The bailer sampler is lowered into the borehole

 Move the bailer up and down (Pulsing movement) to sample the groundwater
 Hoist the filled bailer sampler.
 Empty the sampler in the bucket to measure groundwater quality by using the PH Tester.
 Once the water quality parameters have been stabilized, the water samples will be
collected and stored using the sample bottle.

3.8 Groundwater Monitoring

Groundwater level will be measured every day before drilling work started by using a water
level meter. The following step shall be taken to perform this activity:

 The water level gauge is lowered into the borehole until the sensor hits the water and
produces a sound/signal. Record the depth as the groundwater level.
 Repeat this action every day to get accurate result.
