Since all children must grow up surrounded by adults, they are predisposed to consider themselves small,
weak and (A) capable / incapable of living alone. They do not trust themselves even to do those simple tasks
of which adults believe they are capable without mistakes or clumsiness. Most of our errors in child-rearing
begin at this point. When we demand more than children can do, the idea of their own (B) helplessness /

helplessness. Others treat children as animated dolls to be played with. Others again treat children as valuable
property that must be carefully watched, while still others make them feel they are so much (C) priceless /
useless human freight. A combination of these attitudes on the part of parents and other adults often leads
children to believe they have control over only two things: the pleasure and displeasure of their elders.
Right now there are countless people across this country (A) which / who are waiting. Most are in a post
office, while others are in a doctor’s office or a supermarket. And many of them probably are staring
vacantly. Surely these folks know from experience that waiting idly is unpleasant. Yet day and day, year after
year, they continue to enter into (B) wait / waiting situations without the slightest intention of engaging their
minds. They’ve conditioned themselves to be satisfied with doing nothing (C) while / during waiting. You
should not be one of them. Instead, plan ahead for those inevitable times when you will be forced to wait. If
you’re going into a likely waiting situation, be sure to carry a book or puzzle or notebook with you. And
when someone glibly says, “Sorry you had to wait,” you can reply, “I wasn’t waiting. I was ...ing.”
Unlike goods, services can’t be stored. Instead, their production and consumption occurs simultaneously.
Firms that provide services must maintain enough capacity to meet peak demand periods or they will face a
physical backlog of customers. In the case of air travel, if you fly during peak periods, you will join a queue
of fellow passengers waiting in line to check their luggage. To reduce the backlog, most service delivery
systems use reservations and appointments. Services are _____________________. An empty seat at a theater

In general, evaluation of results can be less subjective than other kinds of performance measurement. This

the chilled area to warm it up. (You may have noticed this phenomenon yourself when you’ve had very cold

The color spectrum of daylight is comprised of red, orange, yellow, blue, green, indigo, and violet. But
water acts as a filter on the color spectrum of light. Consequently the color composition of light changes
progressively with the depthddddd. Just two inches beneath the surface, all the infrared rays of the color
spectrum are absorbed and scattered by the water. Within twenty to thirty feet, all the reds have been
filtered out. Orange is the next color to go. Then yellow vanishes and then, one by one, the other colors
disappear until from about one hundred feet only indigo and violet remain. This creates the blue-green

The reason for negative impact of pollutants on the environment ②is not because they exist, but because
